LEED GreenLearn Panel with Cerami’s Acoustics Expert Robby Deem – Aug. 3 in Washington, DC

Hogan Lovells Washington DC

What does it take to renovate a high-design, highly effective workplace and achieve LEED Gold in the process — all without interrupting the client company’s ongoing operations?

That’s the topic of an August 3 panel in Washington, D.C. And according to Robby Deem, LEED AP BD+C, senior associate for acoustical and technology consulting firm Cerami & Associates, Inc., even experts in phased-in upgrades may be unfamiliar with much of what goes into a successful major office remake of this kind — all nine floors and 400,000 square feet of it.

On Thursday, August 3rd, Deem will join a panel of green office project leaders and specialists to illuminate the five-year renovation of the Washington, D.C. offices of law firm Hogan Lovells. The panel—which will feature Deem alongside team members from Dewberry, Gensler, Hines, and others, including from owner group Hines, and from the client firm—will discuss the transformation of the Hogan Lovells headquarters into “a place for its attorneys and employees to be proud of.”

A GreenLearn offering from the U.S. Green Building Council-National Capitol Region, the panel takes place at the project site itself in downtown D.C. just a few blocks from the White House, and concludes with a half-hour tour. Attendees can expect the panelists to shed light on the value of retrofitting and renovating over new construction, and the hows and whys of LEED for Commercial Interiors.

Robby Deem

For his part, Deem will discuss how Cerami tailored the acoustic design to provide an increased level of privacy for sensitive meetings and discussions, even as the renovation transitioned the office from drywall to glass partitions. He’ll also share how benchmark testing data and end-user feedback collected in real time during phased construction enhanced the ongoing design process.

Deem will also provide his perspective on the impact of acoustics expertise on project goals for sustainable design and occupant health and well-being.
