Award-winning interior architect Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, and Rottet Studio add a couple of feathers in their caps.  The Dichroic Table from Lauren Rottet’s new Rottet Collection captured “Best of Year” in the Occasional Tables category of Interior Design’s prestigious “Best of Year” (BoY) Awards.  Rottet Studio’s Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway Hotel also won “Best of Year” in the Urban Chain Hotel category.  Now in their 12th year, the BoY Awards were presented by Interior Design’s Cindy Allen at Frank Gehry’s IAC Building in New York City on December 1.  Winners were selected from more than 2,300 submissions in 113 categories; entries are first voted on online by the A&D community and then reviewed by an Interior Design editorial panel.

“It’s an honor to win these awards — a real measure of excellence — and to have been judged by our peers in the design community as well as Cindy Allen and others at Interior Design,” said Rottet, who has been inducted into the magazine’s Hall of Fame.  “We are proud and very grateful for the recognition.”

The Dichroic Table uses one of the oldest materials — glass — in unexpected ways and to beautiful effect.  It features sheets of glass with micro-layers of metal oxide that refract light into multiple hues.  At 13″L x 13″W x 18.5″H, it is extremely structural and minimal in profile, working beautifully as a side table in any interior.  “I have worked for more than 20 years with dichroic glass,” advised Rottet.  Driven by the goal to create a table that looks different from every angle, the table explores the relationship between lighting, color, location and reflection. It is a signature piece for its simplicity and dynamic beauty.

The Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway, which was showcased on Interior Design’s October 2017 cover, transforms perceptions of an airport hotel into “something you can’t find anywhere else,” according to Rottet.  “It’s about letting a place have its own voice.”  The open spaces are one interconnected zone with exposed columns and floor planks resembling concrete and everywhere art abounds. Each door along the corridors of the six guest levels sports a supersized exclamation point or a question mark in keeping with the hotel’s spirited, edgy vibe.  The guest quarters are simple, yet appointed with luxurious custom details.
