Hall of Fame architect and interior designer Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, has been honored with a 2020 American Architecture Award for the studio’s innovative Conrad Washington DC, an 11-story, 360 room property, a stand out of the Hilton Hotel brand.

Now celebrating its 26th year, The American Architecture Awards are organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, who jointly present the annual program for Design Excellence. Over 130 buildings and plans were selected from a shortlist of 400 projects. The awards are the nation’s highest public awards given to the best new architecture designed and constructed by American architects and awarded by a non-commercial, non-trade affiliated, public arts, culture and educational institution.

“I felt, as did Hilton, that the Conrad DC represents the future of America rooted in the most significant historical context of our nation,” said Lauren Rottet about the capital property. “The influences that linger are the feelings of true warmth, handmade craft, of gathering and sharing food and drink in a fun, yet honest environment,” she adds.

In addition, the Washington D.C. Conrad was honored with a Best of Year (BoY) Award from Interior Design Magazine in the Domestic Chain Hotel category. The luxe materials included in the public and private interior spaces encompass natural woods, dark bronze, stone, steel, leather, and glass, all handmade and inspired by classic Shaker techniques. Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron joined forces with Rottet Studio on the hotel property, which anchors the second phase of CityCenterDC, a high-end mixed-use development in downtown Washington DC.
