Through this plan, we will grow as a hub for visionary programs and continue to lead the path toward a future that is socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. On April 22nd, celebrate Earth Day with ILFI as we play our part in the movement to build a healthy, sustainable environment and protect the earth for future generations to come.  Learn about the latest projects and trends in Materials, Energy & Water, followed by an in-depth discussion with the mayor’s office on community resiliency. Dive into the key concepts of the Living Building Challenge and develop strategies for implementing Living Buildings in your community in our Understanding the Living Building Challenge Workshop. Prior to our Atlanta workshop, we’re hosting a Materials Cocktail Event on April 21st. A Living Future In Europe

ILFI’s CEO, Amanda Sturgeon will keynote at two European events this month:

REGENERATION 2016 Conference: This annual event in Trentino, Italy aims to share Living Building Challenge knowledge and principles to implement living buildings and communities throughout Italy. The conference pairs with the 64- Hour Living Building Challenge Contest to develop sustainable designs for existing public buildings within the local community.

Living Future Paris: Living Future Paris will examine the feasibility of creating a sustainable future in France through the lens of ILFI’s suite of programs–from living buildings to the Declare program and living products.

Net Zero Energy Building Program in Illinois
Announcing a New Incentive Program for Net Zero Buildings

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation has launched a Net Zero Energy Building Program full of great incentives to help drive down the cost of clean energy in the midwest. Under the Net Zero Energy Building Program, the Foundation will award grants to support new construction as well as retrofit projects that achieve site net zero energy performance over the course of a year.

Projects must own their space and be a 501(c)3 charitable organization or public entity serving Illinois residents. They are now accepting applicants and will graciously cover part of the NZEB, Energy Petal and LBC certification fees for projects.

Introducing Our New Staff
Meet the Newest Additions to Our Seattle Office

We’ve added new staff members to our Operations, Development and Global Network departments.As Director of Operations, Rachel Hynes will provide overall direction and oversight to the operation needs of ILFI. Miranda Berger, our Grants Manager, will help to support the transformational work of ILFI staff and programs. Lastly, our Global Network Coordinator Sunni Wissmer will support ILFI’s international network of volunteers and policy-makers to achieve a living future that is culturally rich, socially just and ecologically restorative.
