Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-design site furniture, structure, LED lighting and accessories, is pleased to announce a partnership with Smith System, the leading supplier of innovative and ergonomic furniture designed exclusively for K-12 learning spaces.

The partnership combines Landscape Forms’ solutions and expertise in activating outdoor campus space with Smith System’s century of experience supplying wholesale classroom furniture, with the goal of creating more stimulating and productive outdoor learning environments. The partnership introduces the OpenSpaces line, a curated collection of nine Landscape Forms seating elements and site furnishings available for purchase by K-12 schools through Smith System.

“We’ve long believed in the tremendous benefits of connecting people to nature, and we’re excited to extend our mission to K-12 outdoor learning spaces through our partnership with Smith System,” says Landscape Forms Chief Executive Officer, Marjorie Simmons. “It’s exciting for Landscape Forms to be a part of the movement to help educators and designers provide outdoor solutions for schools. It’s a natural evolution of our history of inspiring healthy, outdoor environments for everyone.”

Jim Stelter, President of Smith System adds, “Our partnership with Landscape Forms facilitates teaching outside. Which is a thrilling opportunity for students to connect with where they live, to spark curiosity, and to uncover different ways to learn.”

The OpenSpaces line offers options for both fixed seating and programmable solutions to support multiple modes of learning and collaboration. It also includes a range of tables for outdoor study and dining and communal bench seating, as well as a bike rack and recycling system. “Outdoor learning has become increasingly important to our schools as it facilitates continuous learning, extending the educational process outside of the classroom,” says Landscape Forms Director of Sales for the Central Region, Laura Flannery Sachtleben, FAIA.  “The products in the new OpenSpaces line support these outdoor environments by providing places that encourage active learning, inspire creativity, and stimulate social interactions.”

All OpenSpaces elements are crafted in the USA by Landscape Forms with the same commitment to quality, durability and sustainability that has long made the company’s solutions a go-to for college and corporate campuses and public spaces across the country.

Adds Simmons, “While educators are realizing the benefits of outdoor learning, how those spaces are programmed is still evolving. Together with Smith System, we’re using our shared experience to define and simplify the creation of these spaces, and to enhance student experiences in broader reaching and more equitable ways.”

About Smith System

With a reputation for legendary design and top-quality construction, Smith System creates innovative and ergonomic furniture designed exclusively for learning spaces. The company’s broad product selection helps K–12 educators re-imagine learning environments, making them more functional, flexible and inspiring for students and educators. Smith System began in 1905 building heaters for one-room schools and then water fountains and then lavatory systems. Smith System soon discovered after helping with those basic needs that schools needed help from a furniture maker for the ever-evolving learning environments. That is what led Smith System to where they are today–a company designed to deliver on the needs of education better than anyone else in the industry. The Smith System portfolio includes traditional and casual seating options, student and teacher desks, collaboration tables, multi-purpose classroom storage, book carts, and outdoor furniture. Each product is designed for maximum value, with applications throughout schools. Smith System product applications include classrooms, learning commons and libraries, STEM environments, Makerspaces, computer labs, café and lounge areas, outdoor learning and in-between spaces in learning environments.
