KLC’s ‘Young Designers Competition’ Winning Design

Winning design by Sienna Major

KLC School of Design launched a ‘Design Changes Lives’ Foundation in 2014. This Foundation will involve a variety of initiatives and projects that will emphasise the very real value of good design. The Young Designers Programme is a main focus of the Foundation as it aims to inspire and encourage young designers.

KLC works with local Councils and schools to give talks and run competitions to raise awareness about the potential of interior or garden design as a career.

The latest ‘Young Designers Competition’ commenced on the 12 September 2016. This was a national competition that aimed to encourage creativity and design skills from a young age and champion interior design as a viable career option after sixth form. The competition challenged entrants to design a bedroom for a chosen celebrity across two age categories, 11-14 years and 15-18 years.

All entrants submissions were judged by a respected judging panel including Jenny Gibbs Principal and Founder of KLC renowned interior design and previous BIID President Daniel Hopwood.

KLC would like to congratulate 17 year old, Sienna Major, for winning the Young Designers Competition.  Sienna designed her bedroom based on her chosen celebrity influence, Cara Delevingne. Her room design incorporated her celebrity’s personality, interests, likes and dislikes etc. KLC Principal, Jenny Gibbs commented, “The Design Changes Lives Foundation is all about encouraging and supporting new design talent.  Siena’s bold and innovative design really met the competition brief and we are sure she has an exciting design future ahead of her.”

Sienna had the following to say about the competition, “I really enjoyed working on this project and I’m thrilled to have actually won. I am hoping to start the Foundation course at KLC this year, so winning this challenge is so amazing.”

KLC will continue to encourage young individuals to use their creative design skills to discover designers of the future.
