KFI Studios and Gensler Introduce Canopy: A New Paradigm for Flexible, Focused Workspaces

KFI Studios, a leading manufacturer of contract furniture, is proud to announce the launch of Canopy, a freestanding workstation developed in collaboration with the product design team of renowned architecture firm, Gensler. Engineered to meet the demands of today’s evolving workplace, Canopy offers a refined architectural solution for organizing open-plan environments into thoughtfully defined personal spaces. Canopy’s clean lines and clearly defined structure provide privacy and flexibility in a modern form that elevates the look of commercial interiors.

With its distinctive upholstered privacy hood and integrated lighting, Canopy creates a dedicated zone for concentration, softening noise, buffering distractions, and providing a heightened sense of comfort and enclosure without complete isolation. The result is a quiet retreat designed to support a wide range of workstyles, whether for heads-down tasks, video calls, or moments of recharging. The design is particularly well-suited for modern offices, coworking spaces, and education environments where unassigned seating and hybrid schedules require furnishings that can quickly adapt.

“Canopy is a beautifully considered answer to one of the biggest challenges in today’s workplace; how to give people privacy and control in the midst of an open floor plan,” said Chris Smith, CEO of KFI Studios. “It’s a workstation that helps define the environment, visually and functionally, without overtaking it.”

Available with a height-adjustable work surface, integrated dimmable lighting controls enhance both focused tasks and virtual meetings thanks to a ring light effect. For interior projects that have sustainability metrics in mind, optional occupancy sensors are also available that will shut off the integrated lighting when not in use. With the addition of convenient power ports, including USBs, Canopy is designed with user comfort and productivity in mind. Canopy can be customized with select upholstery options that are available for the privacy hood. At the same time, the lower surround can be finished with either upholstery, FSC-certified red oak veneer, or low-VOC laminates.

“Canopy was born out of a desire to bring calm to open environments,” said Daniel Stromborg, Design Director at Gensler. “We wanted to create something that felt grounded and architectural, while delivering on performance, supporting flexibility, movement, and the human need for boundaries in shared space.”

Built in the USA, Canopy meets rigorous quality and sustainability standards. It features FSC-certified solid red oak wood sourced and manufactured within a 200-mile radius of KFI Studios’ Kentucky facility, CertiPUR-US® foam, and low VOC finishes.
