Launching at Milan Design Week 2026

Kasthall announces a new collaboration with award-winning international design studio Barber Osgerby, marking a significant creative partnership and the launch of Atlas and Bonbon – two new rug collections shaped by industrial craft, material honesty and graphic clarity.

Working closely with Kasthall’s design team in Kinna, Sweden, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby immersed themselves in the rhythm, pace and constraints of the industrial loom. Rather than imposing a fixed aesthetic, the designers allowed the tools and techniques of the mill to shape the direction of their work.

“We began by listening,” says Edward Barber. “Understanding what Kasthall excels at – what’s inherent to their process and equipment – was central. We wanted the rugs to emerge from those conditions, not in spite of them.”

The result is a collection shaped by method, where visual language grows directly from material structure.

EXPLORING TWO DISTINCT DIRECTIONS

Though distinct in palette and construction, each rug articulates the loom’s essential logic – repetition, rhythm and resolution – approached with a fresh eye for material honesty and architectural quality.

Atlas draws its name from the North African mountains, rendered in rich textures and shifting tones. A double-weft construction gives the rug a substantial tactility. “The warp becomes part of the final texture – that’s quite rare,” says Barber. “It gives the surface a kind of shimmer, a sense of life.” Atlas is about movement and quiet topography.

Bonbon offers a denser weave and a livelier spirit. “It’s about a sense of joy,” says Jay Osgerby. “Color that almost feels edible.” In hues like Berry, Rhubarb, Lemon and Damson, the rug layers tone-on-tone yarns for depth, ending in a triple-shuttle looped edge that feels tailored and tactile. Designed to energise architectural interiors, Bonbon brings a touch of play to personal spaces — or, as Barber suggests, would make “the perfect rug for a kids’ room.”

EVOLVING WEAVING MASTERY THROUGH COLLABORATION

”It has been super exciting to start the collaboration with Edward and Jay, it is like writing a new chapter of Kasthall design stories or just going back to the roots of the company. Thinking simply, what is a rug has been so rewarding. Edward and Jay have also a great approach for colours. Bon Bon is exactly what we need today – a joy of colours,” says Mirkku Kullberg, CEO, Kasthall.
