J+J Flooring Group Celebrating 60 Years

Keen Focus on People, Quality Products and Environmental Stewardship Marks its Six Decades of Success

J+J Flooring Group, a leading diversified manufacturer of commercial specified flooring, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2017.

Originally started as J&J Rugs in 1957 – an independent, family-owned business by Rollins Jolly and Tom Jones – J+J is still holding true to its founding principles, while continuing to meet the needs of its customers, employees and the community it serves.

During J+J’s six decades, the company has built its reputation by focusing on three core areas: creating innovative, beautiful and high-quality flooring solutions; placing an emphasis on its people to deliver a premium customer experience; and protecting the environment through responsible conservation and stewardship.  The company currently goes to market through its Invision brand of broadloom and modular carpet and its Kinetex brand, an advanced textile composite flooring.

With these drivers at its core, the company has grown from its humble beginnings of 15 employees to an international organization with more than 720 associates and product representation in more than 20 countries worldwide.  Today, J+J Flooring Group product can be found in virtually every commercial interior sector, including corporate, healthcare, hospitality, education and retail.

Notable events in the company’s rich history include its step into yarn extrusion in 1985, making J+J one of the first carpet manufacturers to extrude its own fiber.  Nine years later, in 1994, J+J acquired Invision Carpet Systems, further strengthening its position as a producer of design-forward carpet products. This acquisition was soon followed by the launch of a new line of modular carpet, which served as a growth catalyst and continues to be one of the company’s core product category offerings today.

Through these and other changes, J+J has maintained its focus on innovation and environmental conservation.  In 2013, the company introduced Kinetex textile composite flooring, a breakthrough flooring innovation that bridges the gap between carpet and hard surface. Since its inception, Kinetex has received numerous industry recognitions as an innovative flooring option for its human-centered qualities and its environmental benefits.  It continues to surpass ambitious sales objectives.

In 2016, with a strong cultural balance and an alignment of future opportunities, J+J merged with Engineered Floors, the privately held residential carpet producer founded in 2009 by industry luminary Robert E. Shaw.

Before it was recognized as a business benefit or used in marketing initiatives, J+J forged a leading role in environmental conservation. A significant milestone in the company’s sustainability efforts came in 2015 when, after 25 years of effort, it became the first and only U.S. floor covering company to be independently certified as a zero waste to landfill manufacturer. During the 2015-16 audit time period, J+J diverted more than 5.2 million pounds of waste from local area landfills.  Though its partnership with the EPA and other initiatives, including its EnAct and carpet reclamation programs, the company has also achieved significant energy and water usage reductions over the years.  All of J+J’s sustainability goals are documented in the company’s strategic 20/20 Vision, a roadmap articulating the company’s commitment to corporate responsibility and how key environmental goals will be achieved by 2020.

JJFG President David Jolly

Commenting on this historic anniversary, President David Jolly, grandson of co-founder Rollins Jolly, said, “We have a saying here, ‘We are in the people business and we just happen to make carpet.’ This could not be more true.  Our 60 years of success would not be possible without our dedicated and talented associates and the unwavering support from our customers.  As we look forward to our next era of growth, we will continue to focus on what’s made us successful: Putting people first, providing quality flooring solutions, delivering outstanding customer service and being responsible stewards of the environment.”
