International award-winning firm KTGY Architecture + Planning is pleased to announce the addition of Jessica Musick as a shareholder. Musick, formerly an associate principal with KTGY, was also named a principal. Based in the firm’s Oakland, California office, Musick joins other KTGY Oakland shareholders: Jill D. Williams, AIA, principal and chairman of the board; and Bill Ramsey, AIA, NCARB, principal.
“Our diverse group of shareholders are strategic leaders with a financial investment in the long-term success of KTGY, encouraging multi-generation leadership and the evolution of the firm’s vision,” said Tricia Esser, KTGY CEO. “Jessica Musick exemplifies the firm’s high standards and values. We are excited to welcome her as a new shareholder.”
Musick joined KTGY in 2004. She is a design leader in the Oakland office and is responsible for vision and carrying projects through public approvals. Focusing on urban-infill mixed-use projects, Musick believes that architecture should be deeply rooted in the community where it sits, responsibly responding to client goals, community needs and the urban context. “Our work affects how people live and their experiences in and around our buildings. With an office in Oakland, I am fortunate to be able to shape the environment where I work and play,” Musick said.
In Oakland, Musick served as lead designer for residential and mixed-use developments currently under construction: Alexan Webster, a multifamily development by Trammell Crow Residential that is located on the site of a city parking lot in Oakland’s Lake Merritt neighborhood; and Carmel Partners’ Fourth Street East, two multifamily buildings at Jack London Square with ground-floor retail set on an historic site and an under-used parking lot that gained enthusiastic public approval. She has a new high-rise residential building in Oakland on the boards. Musick is also the design lead for 360 Fifth Street, a condo-mapped development in San Francisco’s SoMa district developed by Trammell Crow Residential, and Estrella Vista, an affordable housing community in Emeryville, by EAH.
Beyond architecture, Musick serves her local community through the firm’s sponsorship of an Oakland public school, Madison Park Business & Art Academy, via the Oakland Public Education Fund. KTGY’s Oakland office sponsors a sixth-grade class and spends two days a month teaching about community planning, architecture and graphic design. Musick also volunteers weekend time to Oakland running club LMJS and works with local runners to train for the Oakland Running Festival half marathon.
Musick is a speaker at industry events focused on specific Bay Area City processes and trends. She is frequently quoted about design trends in local and national publications. She has also served as a Critic at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California. Musick graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
In addition to Musick, Kamran Charmsaz, LEED AP, located in KTGY’s Tysons, Virginia office, was named a principal and shareholder. KTGY also announced the addition of Wil Wong, AIA, to its board of directors. Wong is located in the firm’s Irvine office.
