What does a strategic plan look for an architecture and design firm? Who should have one, and how can it be developed?
On Monday, May 1, an American Institute of Architects (AIA) panel moderated by Jane Smith, FAIA, IIDA, founder of Spacesmith, will tackle these questions in the talk, “Strategy by Design – Studio Perspectives,” at the Center for Architecture in New York.
Hosted by the Marketing and Communications Committee of the AIA’s New York chapter, the panel brings together business development and marketing experts from design, engineering, and real estate firms to share insights on how they’ve considered and managed strategic planning, including challenges in implementation and lessons learned along the way.
As the founding partner of Spacesmith and vice president of the AIA Executive Board, Smith is a respected leader in both the design and business communities, and a frequent speaker and advisor on the topic of strategic planning. Under her guidance, Spacesmith has been recognized as one of the top 200 “Giants of Design” by Interior Design Magazine since 2005.
Topics to be discussed during the AIA NY panel held at the Center for Architecture include: What strategic plans are and who should have them; Making informed decisions on which projects to pursue; How firms can evaluate their thresholds for growth or size maintenance; Methods for developing and maintaining a marketing budget; and how business development efforts can be dispersed and communicated firm-wide.
