Introducing MIA and FORMWORK: Two New Collections by Jamie Stern Furniture, Carpet, Leather & Fabric

The MIA Collection Marks First Designs Made in the Brand’s New North Carolina Factory, Spotlighting American-Manufactured Design

Inspired by the Bold Lines and Textures of Brutalism, FORMWORK is a New Line of Performance Fabrics Designed for Durability

Jamie Stern Furniture, Carpet, Leather & Fabric announces the launch of two new collections: MIA and FORMWORK. Kicking off a robust pipeline of launches in celebration of the company’s 40th anniversary this year, MIA and FORMWORK represent both the introduction of a new furniture manufacturing facility in North Carolina, where the “Made in America” Collection is produced and the rapid expansion of the fabric division, led by Jeannene Doub.

“We are excited to launch MIA and FORMWORK to kick off what is set to be a defining anniversary year for the company,” said Jamie Stern, Founder of Jamie Stern Furniture, Carpet, Leather & Fabric. “We’re looking forward to continuing our tradition of pairing design-driven collections with unparalleled custom capabilities across all four product lines. This ongoing effort is always exciting, especially now that it is being spearheaded by our recently appointed Creative Director, William Oberlin.”

MIA: Made in America

Left to Right: Acadia, Pinnacle, Denali

Short for “Made in America,” the MIA Collection by Jamie Stern will feature three fresh sofa and chair silhouettes inspired by timeless closed-arm seating. Designed with thoughtful modifications to its shape and proportion that enhance both style and comfort, the collection was developed for production in Jamie Stern’s new North Carolina-based factory, the first pieces to be produced in the space.

Authentic to the Jamie Stern brand, the three designs, named for the iconic American national parks Acadia, Pinnacle and Denali, can be adapted for multiple applications, from hospitality spaces to corporate environments and residential interiors. Known for offering interior designers industry-leading access to customizations and the production process, Jamie Stern designed each piece in the collection to be available in a range of sizes, from single chairs to sofas that seat three or more, and can be upholstered in the brand’s wide-ranging standard fabrics and in-stock leathers in single or multiple colorways. Styles in the MIA Collection include:

Acadia: A classic cradle form defined by its smooth lines, elegant curves and gently sloping back, Acadia’s subtle piping details allow for designers to employ contrasting materials on each side to create exciting interior statements.

Pinnacle: Pinnacle offers a modestly scaled profile featuring a graceful curved back and arms that balance a sculptural silhouette with surprising comfort, easily fulfilling the needs of a multitude of interior spaces.

Denali: Denali features a rounded square plan with sloping arms that envelop the sitter in comfort. Its generous scale allows for movement and boasts a crisp exterior flat edge that contrasts beautifully with the soft interior cushioning. This design offers the option of utilizing two upholstery or leather components for the exterior and interior of the piece.

FORMWORK

Top to Bottom: Granular, Ascent, Alinear, Reyner

Evoking the geometric simplicity and materiality of the Bauhaus and the Brutalist architecture movements from the mid-20th century, FORMWORK is a new fabric collection from Jamie Stern that fuses mid-century architectural lines, patterns and colors with rich textures. Designed by Jamie Stern’s Fabric Division Director of Design and Development, Jeannene Doub, for unyielding functionality, these performance fabrics are as durable as they are beautiful, echoing the textures of béton brut, the French term meaning “raw concrete” for which the movement is named. Made for upholstery, designers can utilize these fabrics across numerous applications as well as for projects within the wider Jamie Stern portfolio.

The patterns found throughout the collection are inspired by the structures often made of materials found in Brutalist architecture, seen through large-scale geometrics, irregular line compositions and textural weaves in the fabrics, with colorways inspired by the Bauhaus’ traditionally muted and neutral palette, embracing the beauty of imperfection in earthy grays and deep blacks with, unexpected pops of vibrant color.

The FORMWORK collection will include six patterns:

Granular: A highly detailed and lightly-textured performance fabric, Granular is a linen and jute fabric that creates a unique visual and tactile blend reminiscent of granules for a rich sensory experience. Granular is available in ten colorways.

Kenzo Crosshatch: Creating an organic grid pattern, Kenzo Crosshatch’s dimensional nature showcases the interplay of shadow and light often found in Brutalism. This 100% polyester performance fabric is available in three, two tone colorations.

Foundation: Inspired by unfinished concrete, Foundation’s weave embraces natural and raw imperfections for a texture that conveys an authentic and rugged look with heightened tactility. This 100% polyester performance fabric is available in one, light grey monochromatic coloration reminiscent of the material that inspired it.

Alinear: Named for the small-scaled repeating pattern featuring a positive and negative motif throughout the weave, Alinear is a 100% polyester performance fabric smaller available in four two-toned colorways.

Ascent: Ascent features a multi-colored stripe, reminiscent of the visible texture and variation found in poured concrete. This performance fabric is 75% polyester/14% cotton/8% viscose/3% linen and available in three colorways.

Reyner: This modern, geometric design features a statement pattern inspired by monolithic forms that highlight themes of strength, utilitarianism and permanence. Made of 100% polyester, Reyner is available in three colorways.
