Industrial designer Michael Porzio of Massachusetts has joined custom corporate furniture maker WallGoldfinger in Randolph, Vt.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Porzio previously held internships at Core Composites in Bristol, R.I., and NASA in Houston.
At Core Composites, Porzio was a prototype drafter. At NASA, he designed and fabricated the toilet (wall-mounted, close quarters, gravity defining âwaste management systemâ) for the Orion Spacecraft along with other projects. Designed for deep space travel, Orion is expected to travel to Mars, with Porzioâs toilet on board.
A native of Lakeville, Mass., Porzio is now fulfilling a goal of living in Vermont.
âI always wanted to live in Vermont. That was my dream,â says Porzio, who has family in Putney and enjoys Vermontâs outdoor recreation opportunities, including skiing, biking and hiking.
He joined WallGoldfinger last month and is residing in Braintree.
WallGoldfingerâs work creating large boardroom tables and other high-end corporate furniture is new to Porzio, but not entirely so. âMy fatherâs a woodworker. On my motherâs side there are a lot of woodworkers. Itâs always been part of my life,â says Porzio, who is now designing WallGoldfingerâs furniture in SOLIDWORKS three dimensional computer aided design software, and loving it.
âVermontâs everything I always wanted it to be,â he says. âThe job is cool. Iâm impressed with what WallGoldfinger does. I didnât think it was possible. Thereâs so much ingenuity.â
