Five locations of Valencia will be analyzed and redesigned to showcase their possible evolution. Five design teams selected out of this call will produce a 360º view. In one image, half will show a dystopian future (180º) and the other half a utopian vision (180º).
The submission will be until Sunday, February 28th 23:59h (CET) on this website
What will Valencia look like in 2050? How will technology impact the built environment? How will people live in public space? How will mobility evolve and shape the streets? World Design Capital Valencia 2022 in collaboration with Las Naves and directed by Non Architecture are searching for creative designers or teams with great architectural visualization skills and motivated to explore together new perspectives for the future of the city of Valencia (Spain). The submission will be until Sunday, February 28th 23:59h (CET).
Five locations of Valencia will be analyzed and redesigned to showcase their possible evolution. Five design teams selected out of this call will produce a 360º view. In one image, half will show a dystopian future (180º) and the other half a utopian vision (180º).
The innovative project outcome is matched with an innovative approach to design. For each location, a design team picked through the Open Call will collaborate with Non Architecture Studio to deliver conceptual creative designs. Five international teams will independently develop their own vision for the assignment. Non Architecture Studio will curate the process, provide background research and assist the designers. The 360º visualizations will be artistic representations of these future scenarios and participants will receive monetary compensation (1500€).
The future of our cities holds exciting challenges that we as designers fantasize with, what if we could see it with our own eyes? Would that raise our awareness? In a postpandemic scenario, the power of digital tools has proven itself to be a complementary tool to traditional ways of doing. We believe in visualization as a way of thinking and creating knowledge.
The goal of Non Architecture together with World Design Capital Valencia 2022 is to experiment through innovative ways of communication and engaging tools, the main threats and opportunities the city of Valencia will face in the coming years. By means of Virtual Reality, every spectator will be able to immerse in the atmospheres which artists, designers or visualizers from all around the world have created using the city of Valencia as a (virtual) urban laboratory. Visualizations made by the teams will allow them to design and think beyond the limits of reality, exploring different scenarios opposing utopia to dystopia as two sides of the same coin. The 360º visualizations will remain forever on the Internet becoming “Digital Heritage”. They will even become a way of doing virtual tourism through Google Maps.
In 2022, Valencia– a city full of design tradition, contemporary practices and plans for better futures– will be World Design Capital. With this project, they expects to visualize solutions to the most relevant urban challenges the city will face in the near future. Taking advantage of this historic opportunity, they aims at creating images that, going beyond the aesthetic, are able to sharply communicate a strong vision for Valencia in 2050.
Non Architecture Studio will work together with both the selected design teams and project partners in curating the production of the 360° visualisations that will be eventually part of the events of World Design Capital Valencia 2022. Non Architecture will select 5 (five) design teams to produce one 360º visualization each team. The teams can be composed by maximum 5 (five) people who have any profile and academic background. The only demand is high visual and conceptual skills to develop strong ideas and graphics.
During 2021, the images will be produced through constant collaboration between Non Architecture and the design teams. Meetings between the Project Curator and the Design Teams will be complemented by Panel Reviews where representatives of WDC Valencia 2022 and local authorities will be present to guide and support the design.
