CannonDesign’s VP, Interior Design Leader Honored for Distinguished Career at Leaders Breakfast®

The International Interior Design Association’s New York Chapter (IIDA NY) proudly announces that Dale Greenwald, Associate IIDA, Vice President, Interior Design Leader at CannonDesign is the recipient of the Chapter’s 2024 Leadership Award of Excellence. Greenwald was celebrated among more than 700 attendees at Leaders Breakfast® on May 9th at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

With over 30 years of experience, Greenwald leads CannonDesign’s New York City interior design practice. His portfolio encompasses diverse sectors, from higher education to healthcare and workplace design. Notable projects include Memorial Sloan Kettering’s New Cancer Pavilion, Northwell Health’s Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion, Bucknell University’s Holmes Hall, and the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters (designed while at SOM), among others.

At the IIDA NY Leaders Breakfast®, colleagues acknowledged Greenwald’s passion for design. During a video presentation, collaborators and supporters celebrated his mastery of design thinking, harnessing its transformative potential to enhance the human experience. Guided by an open-minded approach and an unwavering dedication to precision, he places teamwork at the forefront of his endeavors. Beyond his professional achievements, Greenwald serves as an active member of IIDA, served as President of IIDA NY in 2008, co-chaired its Futurists Forum (formerly Facilities Forum), and most recently co-chaired its Business Leadership Training program with Pace University’s Lubin School of Business.

Upon accepting the award, Greenwald stressed the importance of self-reflection and personal responsibility, encouraging the audience to embrace their unique leadership style and take ownership of their growth journey. “Good leaders know when to lead and when to follow; they ask for help and encourage others to step in,” he said. “Good leaders also acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of their team members. They demonstrate grace and humility and constantly seek to learn from other leaders. And most importantly, leadership starts with how you lead yourself.”

Leaders Breakfast® was hosted by eight local IIDA chapters with the support of IIDA Headquarters, international benefactor MillerKnoll, and media partner Interior Design magazine. The IIDA NY Leaders Breakfast® committee is thrilled to announce that this year’s event achieved its highest attendance since before the pandemic in 2020, with over 700 participants. “Leaders Breakfast® has grown to become one of the premier events of the year for New York’s design community,” said Anne Drysdale, Co-Chair of the Committee. Added Lance Amato, Co-Chair Committee, “We were excited to bring together design professionals in an engaging environment while honoring IIDA NY’s accomplishments from the past year.”
