The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is proud to announce the winners of the 11th annual Student Design Competition, sponsored by OFS Brands. This year’s Student Design Competition challenged participants to conceptualize the future of an urban university mixed-use building.

“Students are uniquely positioned to rethink how educational institutions are designed, and this year’s Student Design Competition gave us the opportunity to see how the future of our industry will approach big challenges with big ideas,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “I’m pleased that the entries displayed cutting-edge innovation, creative thinking, and real-world design solutions.”

Entries were judged by a panel of design professionals, including Nick Blessinger (Director of Marketing and Education, OFS Brands), James Kerrigan, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C (Design Principal, Jacobs), Krystal R. Lucero, IIDA (Senior Interior Designer, Edwards + Mulhausen Interior Design), and Robyn Taylor, IIDA, CID (Director of Design, Westgroup Designs).

“There was an impressive range of original design thinking evident in the submissions. A consistent theme in the top entries was the successful articulation of design thought and planning resolution combined with an impressive clarity in graphic presentation. Congratulations to all the winners,” said Kerrigan on behalf of the judges.

Seoyoun Yun, Student IIDA, and Nayeong (Chloe) Oh, Student IIDA, of the California College of the Arts won first prize honors and $2,500 for their project, City Within City.

Hyung Kim, Student IIDA of The University of Georgia captured second place and won $1,500 for the project, Terminal.
