The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is honored to announce the winners of two inaugural design competitions – the IIDA/WestEdge Design Fair Product Awards and the IIDA/WestEdge Design Fair Booth Awards. Winners of the Product Awards are recognized for excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, and function, as well as the suitability of the design solution to the product challenge. Winners of the Booth Awards are awarded for their originality and visual impact with emphasis on materials, space, color, texture, lighting, and graphics. All entries were evaluated by a panel of distinguished design industry experts during the WestEdge Design Fair Los Angeles showcase.
“The WestEdge Design Fair is an ideal partner for IIDA to expand our design competition awards portfolio with due to their concentration on, and celebration of, innovative design in one place for all to experience,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO, Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “That experience is also reflective of how design gathers and encourages interaction while highlighting the remarkable creators of these products and their showcase spaces.
This year’s jury of design professionals included IIDA International Board of Directors Vice President and Gensler Design Director, Bill Bouchey, FIIDA, ASID; Co-Director of the IIDA Southern California Chapter Los Angeles City Center, Jorge Colón, IIDA, AIA; and IIDA Southern California Chapter President, Brett A. Shwery, FIIDA, AAIA.
“The winners impressed the jury with their attention to detail in many ways. In product design, the winners had a keen eye for form and function, while generating tangibles that inspire,” said Bouchey on behalf of the jury. “In the booth and showcasing, we found creative storytelling that accentuated the space and product while drawing the participant in.”
