IIDA Announces Best Interiors of Latin America & the Caribbean Best of Competition Winner
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and Alessi proudly announce Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos as the Best of Competition winner of the 4th annual IIDA Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition for the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen also was the winner of the Spas/Fitness Centers/Gymnasium category.
“The Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition celebrates and honors excellence in interior design and interior architecture in this region,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen showcases modern design that retains an inviting and intimate atmosphere. Among a field of exceptional design projects, we are honored to recognize Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos as Best of Competition.”
The jury panel consisted of distinguished design professionals, including Marlene Liriano, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C, Managing Director, IA Interior Architects; Patrick O’Hare, IIDA, AIA, Principal | VP Business Development, EDG Interior Architecture + Design; and Hayes Slade, IIDA, AIA, Principal, Slade Architecture.
“We were delighted by the quality and creativity on display in all of the winning projects, but the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos stood out with its use of organic elements and rich materials,” said Liriano on behalf of the judges. “It truly feels like a relaxing oasis that plays off of its lush surroundings.”
The Best of Competition winner was announced on Wednesday, May 11, during a special reception at Maison&Objet Americas in Miami, Florida, where all of the competition winners were celebrated.
