IFI D2D Issue 13 | Layers – Bringing New Perspectives & Depth

As it comes to a close, if there is one outstanding comment of the year that becomes highlighted, it is our collective awareness of the incredible diversity and heightened duality of important societal concepts and positions pervasively affecting humanity around the world today. The simultaneous convergence and divergence of considerations with often firmly held positions is striking to witness. For us all, everywhere—those who are stalwarts within the industry and those who are just entering—this provides far clearer mandates for review and refreshment of approaches toward ideas, processes, and use of materials. It heralds the potential for a new era of possibilities.

In this final issue of IFI D2D (IFI Design to Designers) for the year, we recognize the layers that permeate the people, places and things that shape our world and add to its richness. With important programs planned to be launched early in 2022, at IFI we seek to continue to more strongly connect with you, to hear about your challenges and opportunities, and most importantly, to be inspired by your dreams for our growing world family of caring citizenry. An independent body who acts as the ‘UN’ for Interiors worldwide, IFI’s headquarters are appropriately located within the United Nations’ international territory in New York City.

At the world level, IFI’s responsibilities include comprehensively strengthening professional knowledge, caliber of work and integrity of practice, as well as promoting the value of quality design and advancing its impacts. IFI unifies Interior Architecture/Design through globally relevant knowledge, experience and understanding, while engaging the profession with the general public.

IFI believes in the power of Design as a vehicle for human betterment and productive improvement. IFI recognizes that all people are equal across the world and that well-designed environments help to uplift humanity and civil society. It promotes equal rights and access to Interior Architecture/Design practice, research and education to be granted equally to all who wish to pursue it. This is regardless of race, gender, creed, sexual orientation, cultural heritage and socio-economic background, and not-withstanding disparities brought forth across different regional contexts. That good and quality Design requires to foundationally take into consideration these and other such evolving factors as technological innovation, globalization, economic and political instability and social inequality, as well as holistic consideration of the environmental/sustainable factors.
