Icons Reimagined by Carl Hansen & Søn

Introducing the CH24 Wishbone Chair in teak and CH327 Table in a mix of oiled teak and oak from Carl Hansen & Søn

Among Danish furniture designers, Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative, and prolific. Often referred to as the master of the chair, he designed more than 500–many of them considered masterpieces. The CH24 Wishbone Chair has been in continuous production since 1950 and is today an icon of modern Danish design with its light, sculptural shape, and universal appeal. Wegner’s 1962 CH327 dining table exemplifies his confident touch with extraordinary detailing, like the tabletop that appears to float above the refined frame featuring impeccable carvings and joints. Carl Hansen & Søn now introduces the dining set CH24 and CH327 in teak with oak details.

Historically, teak was used to make some of the first Wegner chairs in the 1950s -1960s and was loved for its intense color, but as demands grew higher, the use of the tropical teak stalled and more Nordic wood types, like oak and beech, grew in popularity. Teak forestry has changed dramatically in the past 70 years, and today, the sourced teak is FSC-certified (FSC C135991) and originates from responsibly managed forests. Teak is characterized by its high strength, stability, and vibrant color which elegantly changes from orange to reddish-brown hues during its lifetime. The black grain of the wood results in a dynamic expression that stays beautiful due to its natural content of oil.
