The global architecture, interiors, planning, and strategy firm’s New Jersey office continues philanthropic efforts with February ride
Renowned global architecture, interiors, planning, and strategy firm HLW has participated in this year’s Cycle for Survival to raise over $23,000 for cancer research. On Saturday, February 2nd, employees from the firm’s New Jersey office strapped on their spin shoes to cycle for a good cause at the Equinox in Summit, New Jersey.
With friends and family along for the ride, the Madison-based team hopped on bikes to show their commitment in the fight to beat rare cancers. Prior to the ride, the office organized fundraising resulting in support from consultants, clients, and vendors, which helped the team surpass their original fundraising goal. During the event, the team raised over $23,000 for the cause and were featured on the leaderboard top 20. 100 percent of every dollar raised fuels groundbreaking rare cancer research and clinical trials led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
“We are honored to have been part of such a powerful movement,” said Kim Sacramone, Principal and Managing Director of the New Jersey studio. “Someone close to our NJ family is currently battling one of the many rare cancers that Cycle for Survival is committed to finding a cure for. The cause hits close to home, and our office has been moved by the experience of being a part of something much greater than ourselves.”
Philanthropy is an important part of the HLW culture, and when the New Jersey office was looking for a new organization to partner with, Cycle for Survival was a natural fit. In addition to Cycle for Survival, HLW NJ has worked with a number of local philanthropic organizations including the Madison YMCA Mind Matters 5K, The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the United Way of Northern New Jersey, and Toys for Tots. The team also plans to participate in Habitat for Humanity this spring in Newark, NJ. The firm welcomes any opportunity to bond as a team outside the office while helping those in need and giving back to the community.
Starting as a single indoor cycling ride in New York City with just 230 people on 50 bikes, Cycle for Survival now has about 36,000 participants on 8,000 bikes and 245,000 donors annually. Participating teams include nearly 1,000 companies that rally colleagues to ride together. Cycle for Survival’s signature stationary cycling events, led by instructors from Equinox, takes place in 16 cities across the country each year. HLW’s NJ office plans to make this event an annual tradition, and looks forward to continuing to take part in the fight against rare cancers.
