Healthcare planning veteran Val Williams has joined HDR, based in the firm’s Denver office. Val will work with healthcare clients to design spaces that support and enhance health delivery now and in the future, while also assisting them to consider new ways of working to improve operational efficiencies and patient outcomes.

“As a healthcare architect, Val knows that good healthcare design does not end with knowing how to program the space, but with knowing how to build those spaces with quality details and materials to enhance the patient and caregiver experience,” notes Jim Atkinson, director of healthcare planning for HDR. “Val’s unique perspective brings immense value to our clients not just in the Front Range, but around the world as we advance understanding of how environments can shape behaviors and outcomes.”

During her 15-year career, Val has planned and managed healthcare architecture projects in the Front Range and across the country for clients including Banner Health, Kaiser Permanente, Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), Centura Health and National Jewish Health. She has also worked on multiple individual critical-access hospitals across the western region.

“Healthcare architecture allows me to positively affect people and improve the lives of a wide range of people,” she says. “My experience with multiple clients has shown me that healthcare design and operations go hand in hand.” She adds that she is thrilled to join a company that is not only supportive of its employees, but is committed to quality service and design by incorporating research and analysis into its projects.

Val has developed and chaired an emerging professionals group and has taught communications classes. She also spoke about staff training and engagement, healthcare planning and project management at the AIA Convention in 2010 and 2011, the Environmental Design Research Association’s conference in 2014 and the Healthcare Design Conference in 2014.

You can connect with Val by email and on LinkedIn.
