Green Good Design Award: Allsteel Further Adaptive and Mimeo

Further Adaptive
Mimeo, Regatta Titanium Frost

Allsteel Inc., a leading office furniture manufacturer, has won 2017 GREEN GOOD DESIGN awards in the products category for Mimeo, a task chair, and Further Adaptive, a workstation with integrated height adjustment. Both winners exemplify Allsteel’s ability to provide clients with sustainably designed workplace solutions that fulfill their present business needs while being adaptable to changes in the future.

Mimeo, created in partnership with Bruce Fifield of Milan-based StudioFifield, incorporates Allsteel’s innovative IntelliForm™ back technology, which is responsive to and supportive of the user’s movements and changes in posture. Developed using Allsteel’s Design for the Environment protocol, Mimeo features a 100% post-consumer recycled polymer used in the back frame, base, and back carriers, resulting in a total of 39% post-consumer recycled content for the chair. Mimeo is level® 2 certified to the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard; Indoor Advantage™ Gold certified for indoor air quality; and features a third-party-verified Environmental Product Declaration, which evaluates the chair’s environmental impacts throughout its life stages.

Developed in collaboration with Mitch Bakker of Michigan-based studio IDa Design, the Further Adaptive integrated height-adjustable workstation is a retrofittable addition to Allsteel’s Further office system. It can be mixed with, or retrofitted to, existing fixed-height applications without compromising their function or flexibility while adding the health-and-wellness benefits of a sit-to-stand solution. Easy to retrofit, with 70% of parts retained, Further Adaptive supports multiple configuration possibilities and integrates seamlessly with Further’s power hub system of electrical and data distribution through a hidden beam-mounted wire-management system. Height adjustment is made via an electric control. With Further Adaptive, clients can make a positive environmental impact by adding enhancements to their existing furniture. Further is level® 2 and Indoor Advantage™ Gold certified, and available as FSC® certified.

About GREEN GOOD DESIGN Awards

GOOD DESIGN, the world’s oldest and most recognized design awards program, was founded in 1950 by legendary architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. The annual program is organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. In 2009 the GREEN GOOD DESIGN awards program was introduced to foster appreciation and awareness of a new generation of architects, designers, urban planners, corporations, governments, individuals, and institutions whose approach to design and the public environment is based upon the ideals of energy conservation; the reduction of toxic waste and greenhouse gases; the diminishing dependence on fossil fuels; and a sensitivity for waste, pollution, and the depletion of the world’s energy resources.
