Ghent to Install 1,600-Panel Rooftop Solar Array on Ohio Factory

Ghent, a leading U.S. manufacturer of visual communication solutions, will begin installation of a rooftop solar array at its headquarters in Lebanon, Ohio. The system, comprising 1,600 solar panels, is projected to generate 959,148 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually, enough to supply an estimated 85.5% of the facility’s total electrical use.

The installation is expected to deliver $75,255 in energy cost savings in its first year of operation, with projected savings of $5,784,244 over the system’s 30-year lifetime. The long-term investment reflects Ghent’s focus on operational efficiency and responsible resource management at its Ohio manufacturing facility.

“This solar installation is a meaningful step forward for Ghent and for the Lebanon community,” said Susan Claus, Marketing Director at Ghent. “We’ve always believed that good manufacturing means taking responsibility for how we operate and generating the majority of our own clean energy from our own rooftop is a powerful way to live that out. The long-term savings are significant, but so is what this represents for how we want to run our business.”

Shifting to solar energy is a natural progression for Ghent as the company is fully committed to upholding sustainable practices, including receiving BIFMA LEVEL® certification for glassboards, utilizing packaging efficiencies to reduce waste, and remaining committed to domestic manufacturing for reduced carbon footprint, especially on recyclable products.

“Installing solar panels is part of an overall effort by Ghent to be a responsible steward for a better future,” Claus continued. “It is built into how we do business. We prioritize durable materials, design for longevity, manufacture made-to-order to minimize waste, and continually invest in equipment and processes that improve efficiency. By aligning our operations with our values, we reduce our footprint while delivering products built to last.”

Melink Solar, a Cincinnati-based commercial solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm, provided system design, engineering, equipment procurement, construction, and monitoring services for the project. The installation reflects Ghent’s long-standing commitment to quality and longevity, values that extend naturally into how the company approaches its facilities and operations.
