Francis Cauffman: Designing Spaces for a Multigenerational Workforce

As Millennials enter the workplace and companies are competing for new talent, corporate leaders are looking to revamp their office space to attract the next generation of workers while retaining their veterans. But how do these companies strike a balance between multiple generations in the office?

  • Scenario: As a growing firm spread out in seven different locations, Vertex, a leading provider of tax technology services, sought to consolidate its seven suburban Philadelphia locations under one roof. In deciding where to relocate, Vertex considered where its employees lived, access to public transportation and availability to future employees before selecting a five-story building in King of Prussia, PA.

  • Solution: Francis Cauffman was selected to create an environment where Vertex employees could increase collaboration and innovation, as well as attract new talent. The firm developed a design aesthetic that reflected a collegiate, people-oriented culture with warm, inviting materials, colors and finishes. The firm went through an extensive workplace design strategy process to ensure that employees’ needs were met with new office features such as sit/stand desks, a sustainable green wall in the town hall and a self-service kiosk for healthy meals and snacks.
