FLOS Wins Best Display at Salone Del Mobile 2017

With Best Display prize for the stand presented at this year’s EuroluceFlos is one of eleven winners at the Salone del Mobile.Milano Award 2017. Now in its second year, the award gives further prominence to the outstanding exhibits at last April’s 56th edition of Salone del Mobile.

The award ceremony was held at the Triennale Teatro dell’Arte, where Flos CEO Piero Gandini and the architects behind the project, Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla, couldn’t hide their emotions as they accepted the prestigious award for the following recognitions:

“A display that goes beyond the traditional concept of a trade fair stand thanks to its ability to draw visitors through the luminaires as if in a narration, from the exterior to the interior, where lights, colours, materials, solids and voids play out masterfully.”

Designed by Calvi Brambilla, the Flos stand led visitors through an immersive journey into the universe of Light, playing host to the new HomeArchitectural and Outdoor Collections of the brand. A powerful, dynamic architecture, whose itinerary unveiled, hall after hall, surprising masterpieces by internationally acclaimed designers Michael Anastassiades, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Piero Lissoni, Barber & Osgerby, Philippe Starck, Vincent Van Duysen, and two exclusive new collaborations with Formafantasma and Nendo.

CALVI BRAMBILLA

Fabio Calvi was born in Pavia in 1969. After studying at the Milan Polytechnic and Brunel University of West London, he took a degree in Architecture in 1996. He worked with Gianfranco Frattini and later with Ferruccio Laviani, then opening his own practice in 2004. For eight years he was the art director for all the displays, events and points of sale of Flos.

Paolo Brambilla was born in Lecco in 1973. He studied at the Milan Polytechnic and the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, taking a degree in Architecture in 1999. He received an honourable mention in the Europan 6 architecture competition in 2001. From 2005 to 2013 he taught Interior Design at the Scuola del Design of the Milan Polytechnic. Today he is part of the advisory board of the Architects’ Association PPC in Milan.

Since 2006 Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla have been working together, designing private residences, offices, stores, exhibits and products. They have designed for Arketipo, Barovier & Toso, Bialetti, Cassina, Comfort Zone, FontanaArte, Flos, Grohe, Molteni & C., Saba, Serralunga, Olivari, Tonelli, Varaschin and Zanotta.

In 2015 their project for the exhibition held at Palazzo della Permanente in Milan for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Flos was nominated for the Gold Medal for Italian Architecture of the Milan Triennale.

That same year, the studio won the competition “LC50” for the design of an installation in the Cassina showroom in Milan, while the project for the Zanotta booth at the Salone del Mobile was selected for the ADI Design Index 2016.
