Eric Mersmann Named Director of Interiors for HOK’s Growing St. Louis Practice

Eric J. Mersmann, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, has joined HOK as director of interiors for the St. Louis office. Mersmann brings to HOK nearly 25 years of experience working for a variety of design firms where his responsibilities ranged from design and project management to business development.

Most recently Mersmann served as an associate principal at Perkins+Will and as a senior interior project manager for its Chicago office leading client engagements on numerous corporate headquarters projects, including Bridgestone Americas in Nashville. Mersmann began his career in his hometown of St. Louis in the 1990s when, after graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in architecture, he took a job with the design firm Klitzing Welsch. In that role he was involved in many adaptive reuse and restaurant projects including St. Louis Bread Company, the City Museum and the Artloft apartments.

“We’re thrilled to have Eric back in St. Louis and a key member of our HOK team,” said Lance Cage, managing principal of HOK’s St. Louis studio. “Eric arrives with an impressive portfolio and the leadership and relationship skills to make a real difference for our clients and our practice.”

“After 21 years in Chicago I’m happy to return to St. Louis, where I have family, friends and many fond memories,” said Mersmann. “I’m excited to join HOK, whose work I’ve admired since I was very young. The team here in St. Louis is strong and talented. I look forward to the new heights we can reach together.”

Mersmann joins HOK at a time of robust growth for the firm’s St. Louis practice, with the St. Louis Business Journal recently ranking it as both the region’s largest interior design firm and largest architecture studio. Mersmann takes over the interiors practice from Margaret McDonald, who recently advanced to her new role as one of four principals in charge of HOK’s St. Louis office. Projects Mersmann’s interiors team is currently working on include the Microsoft Technology Center, Clayton on the Park and the BJC HealthCare Washington University Medical Campus Renewal project.
