A return to the hand-drawn wordmark lays emphasis on Emeco’s long lasting commitment to craftsmanship.

Emeco re-introduces its original wordmark. The hand-drawn mark has been a part of Emeco’s identity, as the original aluminum sign on the factory building in Hanover, Pennsylvania, since 1944, when Emeco was founded for a specific purpose – to make chairs for the US Navy. It wasn’t about style. Emeco built mil-spec furniture to survive the tough life aboard warships and submarines. More than 80 years later, Emeco furniture is still made by hand in the same factory, using the same unique 77-step craft process, and built so strong it’s guaranteed for life.
The return to the original wordmark is a testament to the generations of craftsmanship, pride and love that go into every chair.
“A while back, I looked up at the original sign on our Hanover, PA factory building, standing proud since 1944. Then I walked into our workshop, where our chairs are still built with raw handcraft, sweat and human care. I realized that the sign on the building says more than our name. It’s our signature.
So, it’s official, our hand-drawn 1944 logo is back. Look closely. The lines aren’t perfectly smooth. The proportions look a bit odd. That’s the whole point. Those uneven, unique details are not mistakes, they are the signature of true craftsmanship. They are our absolute promise that what you sit on was shaped in the hands of our craftsmen. Proven to stand the test of time. Welcome back to the original us.” – Gregg Buchbinder, Emeco

About Emeco
Founded on the principle ”Begin with what’s left over, turn it into what will last”, American furniture maker Emeco has been building chairs from recycled aluminum for over 80 years. Its very first chair, the 1006 Navy Chair, was made for the U.S. Navy and built to survive the tough life aboard warships and submarines during WWII. From its humble origins as a government and military supplier, Emeco has evolved into an internationally regarded manufacturer of design furniture – with an unchanged commitment to its traditional handcraft and making products that last. At the Emeco factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to this day, furniture is still made by hand from recycled aluminum and built so strong it’s guaranteed for life. With sustainability as its baseline, Emeco is all about making strong, simple and useful products, in partnership with some of the world’s leading architects and designers, including Philippe Starck, Ettore Sottsass, Frank Gehry, Foster & Partners, Jean Nouvel, Jasper Morrison, Naoto Fukasawa, Barber Osgerby, Industrial Facility and Nendo.
