Elements: A SIXINCH x Populous Collaboration

SIXINCH USA designs unique modular system with industry leader Populous

SIXINCH® USA, the leader in unique environment solutions, on Feb 24 announced a new modular seating family, Elements. The collection provides an incredible degree of customization and adaptability as pieces can be swapped and rearranged to match any configuration.

“Functional modular seating is critical for any portfolio, especially as we enter the new post-COVID world” said Josh Taylor, Brand Director for SIXINCH USA. “When we set out to design a new modular family, we didn’t want to fall into the cookie-cutter approach. Our product had to offer form and function that works with today’s evolving environments along with infusing the SIXINCH flair that the industry has come to love” said Taylor.

Taking inspiration from chemistry, the Elements line is a much larger scale version of the way individual elements come together to create elemental compounds. From a distance, they may appear to be one mass, but at a molecular level the individual elements are separated by invisible bonds. These smaller parts can then be rearranged to create something entirely new. See video

The rounded shapes of the Elements collection intentionally do not fit together perfectly, instead creating small shadow lines that define where one piece ends and another begins. This subtle detail draws emphasis to the way the different components interact by butting, overlapping, or separating.

“The Elements collection is a celebration of the parts that make up the whole,” says Adam Stover, Senior Principal at Populous. “We worked with SIXINCH to create a line with a softer aesthetic that was comfortable and inviting, while still maintaining the whimsy that is a core part of its brand. These products are both fun and functional, allowing a single space to transform in numerous ways depending on how the pieces are arranged.”

Over the next few years, SIXINCH plans to create and introduce a wide variety of products to bolster their already strong coated foam offering. Product categories of focus will be lounge, café, modular sectionals, and occasional tables. Populous will assist SIXINCH on multiple soft seating projects as well as suggestions for current portfolio improvements.

“Introducing products designed by the top sports architecture firm in the world is incredibly exciting,” said Taylor. “SIXINCH looks forward to creating a new line of innovative products with Populous that will help our brand evolve and grow.”

Other collections from Populous’ product design studio include the Pleat Collection with Tuohy Furniture in 2020, the Persona Collection with Neinkamper and the Canyon Collection with Bright Furniture in 2019. Populous’ latest collections will debut at this year’s NeoCon in October.
