Duravit Kicks Off Fourth Annual Designer Dream Bath Competition to Include Both Built and Unbuilt Projects
As part of its ongoing 20th anniversary celebration, Duravit USA has announced the launch of its fourth annual Designer Dream Bath Competition. In addition to the Unbuilt category, which invites designers to reimagine their own space, the competition will continue with a Built category, which launched in 2015 to overwhelming success. This option, featuring projects that highlight Duravit, enables designers to submit their top work from the last five years. The winners then receive $10,000 (Unbuilt) and $5,000 (Built) of their favorite Duravit products.
“The A&D community is full of problem-solvers and outside-the-box thinkers,” explains Duravit USA President, Tim Schroeder. “The competition allows us to see how Duravit can be used in these contexts, as an integral design element that helps make a space come alive.”
The competition officially opens for entries on Wednesday, July 13 and closes on Friday, September 23. Winners are selected by a top panel of design editors and are announced during Duravit’s Design Week 2016, October 17-19 in New York City.
The Built category explores a range of settings, with designers submitting both residential and commercial projects completed between 2011-2016. Designers participating in the Built category submit photography of their completed projects that include Duravit.
The Unbuilt category turns the tables, asking designers to look at their own bathroom and create a proposed redesign featuring their choice of products from eight of Duravit’s latest 2016 collections.
Continues Schroeder, “We know that designers are so focused on their clients and work, that they don’t always put the same resources into their own homes. We want to help make their personal dream designs come true.”
In the Unbuilt category, participants submit a rendering or sketch of their “Duravit Dream Bathroom,” as well as a “Before” image of their current space.
Featured collections for the 2016 Duravit Designer Dream Bath Competition Unbuilt Category include:
Darling New and L-Cube with c-bonded technology: Using Duravit’s proprietary DuraCeram material, c-bonded Darling New washbasins connect seamlessly to their L-Cube vanity units, giving the appearance of a single, unified piece. The material thickness of the washbasin is hidden from view, reducing the piece to a purely designed vanity with an unbroken transition between ceramic surface and furniture body.
P3 Comforts: Created in collaboration with Phoenix Design, this modern range places the emphasis on comfort and ease of use, while still maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the pieces. Elegant tap platforms, asymmetric washbasins, sleek shower trays, and rimless toilets serve as elegant design solutions that complete any 21st century bath.
ME by Starck: This range of washbasins, toilets, urinals, shower trays, and accessories created for Duravit by the renowned Philippe Starck offers a rich breadth of options with a universally appealing minimal design and nearly endless application possibilities.
DuraStyle: Designed by Matteo Thun, DuraStyle complements both residential and commercial environments with the slim profile of its ceramics and minimal geometry of its furniture. The collection also includes a unique bi-color option that incorporates two finishes into one piece.
Happy D.2: Created by sieger design, this Duravit classic is simple, practical, and distinctive. The pieces have a signature “D” shape with a range of fresh finishes, including an elegant Linen finish. Happy D.2 furniture now features options with two or four legs.
L-Cube: This series approaches bathroom design with a modern sensibility, allowing users to implement the furniture as building blocks and create the best layout for their lifestyles. L-Cube features chic design touches, such as a shadow gap on the fronts and sides of the furniture and more than 30 traditional and unusual finishes.
Stonetto: A collection of sleek shower trays designed by EOOS, Stonetto is made of Duravit’s proprietary new material DuraSolid Q, which emulates the pleasantly polished feel of natural stone with its quartz-based composition.
Light & Mirrors: This clean selection of mirrors features LED lights on the top, sides, or fully surrounding the glass to add a warm glow perfect for use in a bathroom setting.
