Dunn-Edwards Opens Second Annual Student Design Competition

Architecture and Design Students Compete to Win up to $3,000

Dunn-Edwards opened its second annual Emerging Professionals Design Competition for students today. The competition is open to students nationwide. Eligible emerging professionals of architecture and design who are enrolled in school can apply online by August 7, 2022. There is no fee to enter. Winners will be announced by August 31, 2022.

Grand prize winners will receive national recognition through a feature in Dunn-Edwards specs + spaces, acknowledgment on social media and will bring home $3,000 in cash. The beginner tier winners will receive $100 pre-paid credit cards. Two early-bird prizes of an all-expenses paid trip to a design destination in the United States with a plus one will be randomly awarded to early applicants who apply by June 19, 2022.

Dunn-Edwards recognizes that professional development is an evolution. This competition encourages all design students regardless of their year in school to demonstrate their skills in residential and commercial design. Last year’s grand prize residential winner, Helen Hoang, University of Cincinnati, urges all students to step up to the challenge regardless of experience. She imparts the wisdom to all other design students: follow your passions. She suggests starting with something you’re inspired by and practicing by honing your skills. “I really liked residential design, so that is why I was so excited to do my [Emerging Professionals Design Competition] design, even though I had no previous experience.”

Dunn-Edwards Color of the Year, Art and Craft (DET682), is the centerpiece of all design submissions for the residential and commercial categories. Each entrant must address a specific need for a hypothetical client. Beginner tier entrants submit a mood board and written description. Advanced tier entrants submit a mood board, color renderings and written description. Learn more at Emerging Professionals Design Competition sponsored by Dunn-Edwards.

Sara A. McLean, Editor and Color Marketing Manager at Dunn-Edwards, is participating as a judge for the competition for her second year, “Dunn-Edwards puts a focus on students because they are the future for the innovation of color and design. My passion lies in color, and that’s why I am honored to be involved in this event for the second year in a row.” The remainder of the jury for the 2022 Emerging Professionals Design Competition includes Sarah Stieber, Muralist and Jewelry Maker, Anjana Joshi, Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Cañada College and Chabot College, and Jason Lai, Owner/Principal Designer at JL Interiors.
