A design that makes distractions go unnoticed where floor space is at a premium, the new Roland Nook by AGATI packs a study haven, thoughtful ergonomics, and durable finishes into an area smaller than the typical shower stall.
“As we monitored our installations over the past few years,” said Joe Agati, founder of AGATI Furniture, “one thing became blatantly obvious to us: people gravitate towards the sanctuary spaces to get their work done. Roland Nook meets that important need where the ability to focus is a must and a smaller footprint is a non-negotiable reality.”
No Sacrificing on Workspace
Keeping within the confines of a smaller design always presents a challenge, and in engineering Roland Nook, maintaining adequate space for backpacks, working surface, and caffeinated beverages was a must.
To accommodate this, AGATI curved the front of the work table (where it’s unlikely items will need to be stored) but maintained full-width dimensions at the back of the table, providing sufficient area for a laptop or tablet, books, and even some real estate to write. Its cantilevered design means no awkwardly-located supports that can interfere with comfortable leg placement.
To provide even more storage, a full-length side ledge can hold such items as smartphones, coffee cups, or small bags, but they stay off of the main workspace.
A Maintenance Team’s Dream
Roland Nook’s side panels are attached to a square, stainless steel framing structure which offers a contemporary and angular aesthetic. This design not only minimizes its floorplan footprint, it helps maximize total interior volume to give a sense of spaciousness while adding durability.
The side panels stop short of the floor by approximately one foot, which makes for easy vacuuming and floor maintenance. Additionally, since most panel scuff marks occur from “shoe rubs” at ground level, this design inherently reduces the chance for contacting the panels to even create such unwanted eyesores.
Electrical power is channeled through the stainless steel framing to eliminate unsightly cords. Access points are right at the main workspace so users avoid digging for outlets and moving furniture to be within proximity of those very precious 110 volts.
Productivity in Mind
Utilizing years of research to identify the proper seating angles and support materials that best encourage focus, Roland Nook’s ergonomics feature an upright seating position and “right-angle knee encouragement.” This is the standard seating position for focusing.
At the same time, Roland Nook’s seating is constructed of the same comfortable padding found in AGATI’s lounge seating. The seat, like the work table, is cantilevered which means there are no supports to interfere with leg placement.
Roland Nook’s side entrance ensures the patron’s back is covered; this offers more privacy (especially from laptop/tablet screens), and a sanctuary-like environment that makes solo study more effective.
