DIRTT Explains Office Acoustics in Two-Part Series

DIRTT posted an informative two-part series on acoustics in office design.

“Making a Sound Decision for Your Office,” posted Jan. 17, offers a quick guide to acoustics. It explains Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings for walls, Noise Isolation Class (NIC) ratings for doors, and Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) ratings for ceilings.

“Sight and Sound,” posted Jan. 23, explores how the look of a space can affect its acoustics. Hard, flat surfaces like glass or brick reflect sound back and make spaces louder, while soft surfaces, like carpet or acoustic ceiling tiles, absorb sound and make spaces quieter.

Both articles include photos and diagrams illustrating the acoustical concepts explained.
