The hand-blown glass pendant expands Coronet’s performance decorative lighting portfolio.
New York-based architectural lighting manufacturer Coronet LED introduces the Artisan Orb, a hand-blown glass pendant developed in collaboration with Los Angeles-based artist Ivan Lee Mora of Obsydian Studios. The luminaire marks Coronet’s first collaboration with an independent artist and a growing portfolio of performance decorative lighting.
Known for immersive sculptural works spanning retail settings, hospitality environments, and large-scale public art installations around the world, Mora’s multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between light, material, and atmosphere. A prior project, in which Coronet supplied light engines for one of Mora’s installations, revealed a natural creative alignment between the two parties—one grounded in Mora’s expressive approach to illumination and Coronet’s technical expertise in architectural lighting.
With the Artisan Orb, that relationship takes shape as a specifiable luminaire that balances the tactile qualities of hand-blown glass with the optical performance and engineering rigor required for modern commercial interiors.
Each Artisan Orb begins as molten clear glass gathered at the furnace and layered with white glass to produce a luminous semi-opaque finish. Once the desired opacity is achieved, the material is pressed into custom optical molds that create one of three textured surface patterns. The form is then shaped by hand through centuries-old glassblowing techniques, relying on the precise control of heat, airflow, and gravity to refine the final silhouette. From the first breath into the pipe through the final annealing cycle, the process demands precision, resulting in a piece that is technically consistent yet unmistakably hand-crafted.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the way light moves through glass—how it can feel captured within the material, then softly reflected back into a space,” says Mora. “For Artisan Orb, the moon was a constant point of reference. We were drawn to the atmospheric glow of Lunar New Year lanterns and began exploring lattice-like textures that could refract and diffuse light in a similarly layered way.”
The Artisan Orb is available in three surface patterns, each inspired by rays of lunar light. A 12-point vertical linear pattern offers a restrained, architectural expression. A 24-point version refines the texture, increasing its frequency and light play. The pineapple crosshatch introduces a faceted, jewel-like texture. Across all three, the textured glass modulates how light moves through the material, producing a layered luminosity rather than a flat or uniform diffusion.
Engineered with aluminum-core LED boards, specifiable color temperatures, and a CRI above 90, the Artisan Orb delivers both decorative impact and architectural-grade performance. The luminaire is available in 6- and 11-inch diameters with pendant and wall-mount configurations. Artisan Orb is BABA-compliant: Hand-sculpted prototypes were developed in Los Angeles, while the orbs are produced with Glow Glass Studio in Oakland, California, using locally sourced glass and custom molds fabricated in Washington State. Designed for hospitality, residential, and commercial environments alike, the collection reflects a growing demand for decorative lighting that combines craftsmanship and technical performance.
