Conceptual Colors Revamp Wolf-Gordon’s Scuffmaster

10 x 10: Tallying Up the Greater Sum of Color

Wolf-Gordon announces the relaunch of its ScuffmasterÂŽ brand of paint finishes in a fresh new palette developed in partnership with Dutch design and research firm Studio RENS. The palette is a curated selection of 100 colors organized in a 10-by-10 grid that celebrates the unique qualities of each of the nine finishes, which range from soft matte and eggshell to luminous sprayed- and brushed-on metallics.

A strategic design process positions the 10 x 10 at the juncture of research and design. Under the direction of Wolf-Gordon CCO Marybeth Shaw, sales data of the Scuffmaster catalog was analyzed to produce a list of the top-selling colors across each architectural finish. The process took into account multiple shades from each of the nine finishes as determined by both national and regional color preferences.

“There might appear to be a particular color palette that emerges in the United States, but the fact is we are rather fragmented when it comes to color. I wanted to look at not only colors and finishes that were selling well nationally, but also get more micro and look at regional markets.” – Marybeth Shaw, Chief Creative Officer, Design & Marketing

Upon receiving the samples of top-selling shades, Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren of Studio RENS assigned conceptual, descriptive language to each finish, highlighting textures and expanding the scope of the palette. Mennen and van Keijsteren then narrowed the list to 60 shades before analyzing which colors were missing. The resulting 40 new concept colors fill in the gaps to highlight Scuffmaster’s vivid pigmentation, achieved with VOC-free and 100% titanium dioxide pigments.

“The final 10-by-10 is a celebration of the possibilities offered by the Scuffmaster line. We contemplated how best to present the varying textures and finishes while balancing new vibrant colors with the existing favorites.” – Stefanie van Keijsteren, Studio RENS Co-Founder

Scuffmaster Finishes

Solid Metal

Glittering Bloom | Like a bouquet of brilliant flowers, Solid Metal infuses color with unparalleled radiance. The spray-applied mix of vibrant color and exceptional performance make this the industry’s most durable metallic paint

Smooth Pearl

Ethereal Shimmer | Airy and magical, subtle in its luxury, Smooth Pearl carries a whiff of couture, the pureness of an oyster’s treasure, the glistening depth of a night sky. Choose a flat, satin, or high-gloss protective clear coat.

EnviroMetal

Industrial Harmony | Through its brushed or rolled-on texture, EnviroMetal conveys the impression of a skilled metalsmith, and it’s the easiest metallic paint to touch up.

Vapor/Vapor Luxe

Organic Atmosphere | Weather, a sea generating whitecaps, a sky windblown with character—Vapor and Vapor Luxe recall the omnipresence of movement in nature. Combine two eggshell colors, or go luxe with a metallic topcoat.

Burnished Metallic

Handcrafted Motion | Traces of a handheld brush dipped in metallic pigment is manifest in Burnished Metallic. An eggshell base merges with a luminous metallic topcoat to add a shimmering texture, wherever spraying isn’t an option.

Ambient Metallic

Luminous Mist | Smoldering embers, the warmth of a sunset, light refracted through raindrops as we move past, Ambient Metallic flickers in washed wall light. Its eggshell undercoat provides a matte backdrop for its sparkling metallic effect coat.

Ambient Design

Tonal Touch | The most introverted of the finishes, Ambient Design invites touch to its pure tonal texture. Formulated for heavy-use areas that undergo frequent scrubbing and washing, the durable texture hides scuffs and stains.

Armor/Armor XL

Youthful Expression | Exuberant, outspoken, and loud—especially in its XL version—Armor celebrates the energy and daring of punk rock in the world’s toughest paint. Its glossy dots act like tiny bumpers in high-traffic areas.

ScrubTough/ScrubTough Max

Soft Strength | ScrubTough brings deep opacity and a highly cleanable, stain-resistant surface to busy commercial interiors in a premium, low-VOC eggshell paint. ScrubTough Max is a lustrous semigloss alternative.

Scuffmaster paints ensure long-lasting durability and offer a sustainable paint option for commercial interiors. With the highest scrub ratings in their class, the line meets and exceeds the demands of high-traffic areas, ranging from 2,000 to 25,000+ scrubs. The high-quality pigments offer great permeability, protecting against moisture and mold buildup in walls while withstanding disinfectants and cleaners.

The line contributes to LEED performance credits, is produced using renewable solar energy, and is free of APEO—a potential groundwater hazard. Scuffmaster paints may be applied to tile, woodwork, masonry, metal, elevator doors, and more, extending the life of surfaces and reducing waste.

Custom colors are available upon request in any of the nine Scuffmaster finishes. The complete digital Scuffmaster line is available at wolfgordon.com.
