As Carrier Johnson + CULTURE continues to expand its practice globally, the architecture, interiors and strategic branding firm’s leaders have announced the promotion of two key staff members. Based on their comprehensive knowledge as well as their commitment to maintaining lasting client relationships, architect Rick Castillo and project manager Duane Hagewood have both been appointed to leadership positions.
– Rick Castillo, AIA, NCARB, who recently joined the firm as Director of Architecture in Los Angeles, has been elevated to the role of Principal of Carrier Johnson + CULTURE. With over 30 years of experience, he has a strong understanding of project design and delivery strategies and scheduling, as well as project management for design and management of senior technical staff. A veteran architect, Castillo is known for his leadership and design skills as well as for his extensive technical knowledge. He also offers a deep understanding of the commercial construction and real estate markets of Southern California and beyond.
– Duane Hagewood has been elevated to the position of Associate Principal. During his 20-plus-year career, Hagewood has been involved in all aspects of building and urban revitalization projects, and he has served as both project manager and project architect for major, high-profile projects. Hagewood’s leadership in design projects has included planning, scheduling, and consultant coordination on a wide array of urban design, commercial, multifamily residential, student and affordable housing and mixed-use developments. Among his most recent projects is Park & Market, a large-scale mixed-use development currently under construction in San Diego.
According to Michael C. Johnson, AIA, a founder and Design Principal of Carrier Johnson + CULTURE, Rick Castillo holds a key position with the firm, reflecting his knowledge and experience in architectural services. In his time with the firm, he has led a number of projects including proposals for mixed-use, high-rise developments, and large-scale projects currently under construction in the Greater Los Angeles region such as 5750 Hollywood Boulevard, 5959 West Century Boulevard, and the Shoreline Gateway tower.
“In addition to his extensive knowledge of the regional market and key trends in sustainability and construction, Rick’s exceptional leadership skills and commitment to developing lasting client relationships has helped him quickly establish himself as a key member of our leadership team,” says Johnson.
Johnson adds that in his new position, Castillo will direct the Los Angeles office. An experienced architect, Castillo will make key decisions while supervising the work of several project managers. He will also focus on developing new professional relationships with prospective clients while strengthening the firm’s bonds with current clients, including developers and building owners.
