Carnegie is recognized for being among companies creating the most positive environmental impact globally, based on an independent, comprehensive assessment administered by the nonprofit B Lab. Carnegie is included in the Environment category of the newly released 2018 Best For The World list, which honors businesses scoring in the top 10 percent of certified B Corporations.
The Environment portion of the B Impact Assessment evaluates a company’s environmental performance through its facilities, materials, emissions, and resource and energy use. The assessment measures the impact of the company’s supply chain, as well as whether a company’s products or services are designed to solve an environmental issue. Honorees scoring in the top 10 percent set a gold standard for the high impact that business as a force for good can make on nature around the world.
“Social and environmental responsibility are the cornerstones of Carnegie’s business, and we are honored to be recognized by B Lab for our practices,” said Jim Kaplan, President of Carnegie. “The Best For The World environmental distinction sets Carnegie apart not only within the design industry, but across the business community at large.”
Carnegie is a certified B Corp since 2014 as a result of the company’s ongoing commitment to creating socially and environmentally responsible products and business practices. As the first and only PVC-free company in the interior textiles industry, Carnegie has designed and developed dozens of innovative, sustainable textiles that offer the highest possible performance and safety including: TPO (thermoplastic olefin) wallcovering options, which are free of chlorine, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and halogenated fire retardants; the company’s proprietary Xorel® fabrics, which provide a durable alternative to PVC materials, and Biobased Xorel, the first plant based high performance textile in the world, which is also cradle-to-cradle Gold Certified. Additionally, Carnegie constantly monitors materials and their resulting impact on the planet, leveraging that information to improve products, and educate clients on environmental issues.
“People are hungry for companies like Carnegie, who are changing the system by building businesses that seek to create the greatest positive impact,” says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “Best For The World is the only list of businesses that uses comprehensive, comparable, third-party-validated data about a company’s social and environmental performance.”
Carnegie is the only textile company honored among a total 228 Best For Environment companies, which span 72 different industries and 25 countries. Other 2018 Best For Environment honorees include prestigious brands such as: Dr. Bronner’s; Rubicon Global; and Seventh Generation. Nearly 1,000 Certified B Corporations were named 2018 Best for the World Honorees across all categories, including: Patagonia; King Arthur Flour Company; Green Mountain Power; and the United Kingdom’s Charity Bank.
