Camira Launches Patina, its Newest Fabric Offering
Global textile innovator Camira is bringing together human imagination and the gifts of nature in Patina, its newest fabric offering.
Patina is an intimate blend of wool and flax, balancing composition with construction and beauty with performance. It conveys the beauty and whimsy of designing with nature by showing off white flecks, created by the flax content, scattered across the surface of the fabric just as flowers would dot the fields in which the flax grows.
Camira chose the name Patina because the fabric evokes the look and complexity of a coating or film that builds up over time on a surface, adding to the character of intricacy of the material. For this family of fabric, Camira expands the conventional definition to cover all patterns in the nature that surrounds us.
Patina is inspired by Camira’s trend forecast, Evolution: Global Trend Directions 2017/18. It responds specifically to a powerfully emerging trend called Habitat, which explores human impact and the wellbeing of all things in our environment.
Explained Hayley Barrett, Camira’s designer of Patina: “Only by taking a deep breath and slowing down do we become aware of our surroundings and the pattern in nature is revealed to us. This is the overarching theme behind the development of Patina, having the ability to take in the beauty of the natural environment, stepping outside and using this to promote thought and new ideas.
“When developing the aesthetics of this fabric,” Barrett continued, “we were keen to celebrate the natural beauty of flax and let it shine through. As well as paying close attention to the look of the fabric, the inclusion of flax harnesses its natural ability to meet the higher-level flammability standards without any chemical post treatment.”
Available in a stunning palette of 43 colorways, Patina captures the landscape around us as well as featuring nourishing new shades to complement the wider Camira portfolio. Patina marks the ongoing evolution of Camira’s bast-fiber family of fabrics made from wool, nettle, hemp and flax.
Patina meets heavy-duty abrasion standards, achieving 100,000 Martindale cycles. For more information, visit www.camirafabrics.com/us/patina.
