How are architecture firms addressing gender issues following several high-profile sexual harassment cases around the United States?
On Dec. 3rd and 4th, the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge and recognition of women’s contributions to architecture, will host their annual two-day Industry Leaders Roundtable Retreat. This year’s event is titled “Women Up: Successfully Navigating the #MeToo Business Environment” and will focus on educating senior leadership team members at architecture, engineering and construction firms about gender diversity in the workplace. Taking place in Miami, this program coincides with the Art Basel event and offers individuals an opportunity to network with other architecture firm leaders, HR directors and academics on best practices to change the gender culture of their firm. Speakers include Pat Bosch, Design Director at Perkins+Will; Suzanne Pennasilico, Chief Human Resource Officer at SOM and Vivian Lee, principal at Richard Meier & Partners Architects.
Among topics discussed will be managing employee claims of sexual harassment, pay equality and the effects of gender bias in the workplace. This two-day seminar will help participants develop targeted plans to combat bias, promote and retain leaders, and effect change in the organizational culture.
