BKLYN DESIGNS Returns to Greenpoint May 6-8
Brooklyn’s Premier Design Event Revs Up with Stellar Sponsors, Pratt Participation and Call for Second Round of Exhibitor Applications
At the close of BKLYN DESIGNS 2015, it was clear that the relaunched show was back in a big way. With record-breaking attendance, a new location and revamped visual identity, BKLYN DESIGNS – presented by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and co-produced with Novità Communications – provided a memorable chance to explore the best design, art and architecture percolating across the borough. The 2016 edition will return to the large and light-filled Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint at the start of NYCxDESIGN from May 6-8, 2016 with Pratt and top design media and corporate sponsors already committed. The Brooklyn Chamber is also calling for the next round of exhibitors producing a diverse range of creative objects and services that will be reviewed by a panel of design experts and juried into the show.
“BKLYN DESIGNS was the first design show dedicated exclusively to Brooklyn talent, and after last year’s wildly successful relaunch, the 2016 edition will put our design scene on the map like never before,” said Brooklyn Chamber President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura.
The momentum for BKLYN DESIGNS 2016 is already building with the support of corporate sponsors, including Broadway Stages, Resource Furniture, Airbnb, Forest City Ratner Cos., TerraCRG and FJM Ferro, and partnerships with design institutions such as Pratt, who are planning to have a big presence at the show. In addition, Dwell, Metropolis, Inhabitat, Aphrochic and The Architect’s Newspaper are a few of the confirmed media sponsors who will add to the show’s robust programming and creative site-specific installations.
BKLYN DESIGNS is currently accepting applications from emerging designers and established brands across a range of categories, including furniture, lighting, textiles, art, surfaces, accessories and design & architectural services. A jury of design industry leaders and journalists will review the submissions on a rolling basis. Interested designers can apply for exhibitor space or a table in the BKLYN BUYS marketplace at bit.ly/bkd16app. The Chamber is also offering a 15 percent discount for all Pratt partners, students and alumni, and a 10 percent discount for designers who are sole proprietors and have been in business for less than one year.
