Bennet Dunkley Joins HLW as Principal

The highly experienced professional will grow the firm’s academic portfolio; NYC client base

HLW, the global architecture, interiors, and planning firm is pleased to announce that Bennet Dunkley has joined the firm as Principal. Dunkley will be involved in firmwide leadership, project oversight and client development.

“We’re thrilled to have Bennet Dunkley join the team at HLW,” says Susan Boyle, Managing Partner. “His decades of experience in New York with a full range of building types will help HLW continue our growth in all of our market sectors.” Managing Partner John Gering adds, “Bennet’s leadership and management experience will be a huge asset to HLW as we continue to diversify our services and establish our presence in emerging markets.” “We’re very excited to have Bennet on board,” says Ed Shim, Principal and Managing Director. “Bennet has a great vision for the future, his experience and leadership skills will make him a great mentor in our office.”

Dunkley brings close to 30 years of experience as an architect with a portfolio that includes hospitality, residential, academic, commercial interiors, planning, and preservation projects. His management and operations experience combined with his tenacity and far-reaching influence will advance HLW’s mission to bring the world’s best ideas and design solutions to clients in the U.S.

As Principal, Dunkley will lead HLW’s education sector, implementing new growth strategies and design approaches for the firm’s growing list of academic projects. He joins HLW at an exciting time, as the firm continues to push a conversation about the rapid changes in education and its built environment. Engaging both new and existing clients like Hofstra University, whose School of Business is nearing completion, HLW is helping schools and universities define the academic landscape of the future. Dunkley will also guide the firm through the next wave of development in New York City and surrounding areas. His hire comes as developable sites become more rare and complex, and projects increasingly require creative approaches to design.

“Architecture continues to evolve, bringing new opportunities to work entrepreneurially and collaboratively,” Dunkley said. “I am excited to leverage all aspects of my background to help HLW excel in current markets and branch into new ones. The firm has a growing roster of top level clients who truly view HLW as part of their team, and I’m looking forward to building on those strong relationships.”

Dunkley has dual citizenship in the U.S. and U.K. He is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects as well as the American Institute of Architects. Dunkley holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and is also LEED-accredited by the USGBC’s independent Green Building Certification Institute.
