Today is a proud day for the BAUX team in Stockholm. After investing time and money, they have taken decisive action to fulfil one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals – Goal 13. This involves making all areas of their business climate transparent. BAUX’s progress towards climate transparency can now be read about in their newly released sustainability report.
To help achieve their goal of climate transparency and tackle climate change, BAUX has joined Climate Neutral Now. An initiative launched by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat to increase climate action and promote the voluntary use of the carbon market mechanisms recognised under the Convention. Being part of this initiative means that BAUX follows the steps outlined by the initiative and reports on their actions and achievements on an annual basis.
‘We are pleased to see BAUX’s ambitious sustainability efforts and their aim for climate neutrality’, says Miguel Naranjo, Programme Officer at Climate Neutral Now.
BAUX has completed a thorough emissions audit of their entire value chain—from the full manufacturing process down to the raw materials, transportation of goods, sample production, the office environment and even employee actions. By sharing all their data in a sustainability report, BAUX hopes to encourage and challenge their friends in the design industry to do the same.
‘For us, working with sustainability is about more than just reaching targets — it’s about feeling proud of the efforts we’re making to push the boundaries of what is possible in the design industry’, says Niki Gynnerstedt, Sustainability Manager at BAUX.
Prioritising sustainability is nothing new for BAUX, a company known for producing innovative acoustic products with nature as a first source of inspiration. All their products are designed according to the criterion that they should be ‘sustainable, surprisingly functional, and remarkably beautiful.’ An example of this is BAUX Acoustic Pulp, a 100% biodegradable and traceable acoustic panel made from cellulose, wheat bran and potato starch. The panel was launched in 2019 and has gained a lot of interest globally.
Since completing their first audit, BAUX has taken action to offset all the emissions detected in their value chain by investing in sustainable development projects around the globe. However, they are transparent about the fact that their efforts do not stop there. BAUX has promised to actively change some of the ways they operate to generate less emissions in the first place, and to continue being transparent about the changes they make along the process.
‘I hope our sustainability report will inspire the design industry to be more transparent and to put environmental impact on top of the agenda’ says Lina Schleenvoigt, CEO at BAUX.
