AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS ANNOUNCES CUSTOM PROGRAMMING, INSTALLATION FOR NEOCON 2019

Society Will Promote the Impact of Design at Leading Commercial Trade Show

(May 30, 2019 – Washington, D.C.) — The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) will demonstrate the impact of design at the 51st edition of NeoCon, the world’s foremost platform for the commercial design industry, taking place in Chicago June 10-12. ASID will showcase an immersive installation highlighting how design impacts lives and offer programming and education tailored to the contract industry. By offering forward-thinking, research-driven content to NeoCon attendees, ASID will shine a spotlight on the proven power of design on the human experience.

“NeoCon is the place to be for the contract industry, and it’s the perfect opportunity for ASID to show our comprehensive approach to all sectors of the design world,” notes Randy Fiser, Hon. FASID, ASID CEO. “We hope to engage visitors and challenge them to think about design in a powerful, humancentric way. We’re excited to be counted among NeoCon’s amazing exhibitors and look forward to spreading the ‘Design Impacts Lives’ message.”

In the first floor West Pass Through, ASID will display an exciting new installation. Designed by Elizabeth von Lehe, Allied ASID, design and brand strategy principal, HDR, the space will serve as an oasis that invites visitors to engage, ask broad questions, and explore the beautiful, impactful, and sometimes surprising ways design impacts lives. The exhibit will be open through the duration of the show.

ASID will kick off their programming with the keynote “Stuff Matters: The Material World We Make” by Ilse Crawford, founder of Studioilse, on June 11 at 8 a.m. at the Neocon Theater (19th Floor). The designer, academic, and creative director focuses on putting human needs and desires at the center of her work. She creates environments where humans can feel comfortable, and together with her team, designs spaces, furniture, and products that support and enhance human behavior and actions in everyday life and will offer her thoughts on this topic in her keynote.

The Society’s programming will also include a special panel and tour specifically designed for students on Tuesday, June 11 at 9:30 a.m. The panel — featuring Meena Krenek, ASID, Gensler; David Euscher, ASID, LEED AP, Corgan; Carolyn Ames Noble, ASID, Ames Design Studio; David Cordell, ASID, Perkins+Will; and Jennifer Quail (Moderator, editor-in-chief, i+D) — will explain to students why trade shows are essential to the career of an interior designer and the importance of attending them. After the panel, speakers will lead tours of the show floor and provide valuable insight on how to use time wisely and what to look for during these key industry moments.

Finally, ASID will present the results of their first-ever Outcome of Design Awards program, in collaboration with Neocon, Herman Miller, and Metropolis magazine, on Wednesday, June 12 at 8 a.m. The Outcome of Design Awards (OODA) honor firms that showcase the power of design through research-driven results and innovative, humancentric concepts. This panel, moderated by ASID, will explore how the design approach of facilitating post-occupancy data results can be implemented across projects, and will highlight the 2019 OODA winning designs and the data derived from the projects.
