At Salone del Mobile 2026, Arper will debut Aom, a new seating collection by Jean-Marie Massaud that rethinks contemporary upholstery by simplifying both its form and its construction.
Built from just two interlocking components, Aom eliminates polyurethane entirely, replacing it with expanded polypropylene and recyclable Breathair® padding. The result is lightweight, modular seating designed for longevity, circularity, and ease of disassembly – a rare achievement in the upholstered furniture sector.
Minimal yet adaptable, Aom moves fluidly from lounge and lobby environments to outdoor terraces, offered in one-, two-, and three-seat configurations.
Aom
Design by Jean-Marie Massaud, 2026
Aom is a collection of sofas and armchairs that reinterprets contemporary seating through a principle of subtraction: reducing to achieve quality, lightening to expand possibilities of use. Here, subtraction also implies responsibility: an essential approach to materials and construction reduces the overall impact and makes sustainability a design requirement. Minimal and unconventional, Aom adapts naturally to different settings without changing its language: from lounge areas to lobbies, from waiting areas to terraces and outdoor spaces, where lightness translates into freedom of use and ease of movement.
Aom’s sustainability is first and foremost reflected in its construction: materials designed to last and geared toward recovery, reduction of components, clarity of assembly. The collection is built from only two components, designed as interlocking elements: a structure in expanded polypropylene (EPP), lightweight and durable, combined with a Breathair® padding, a recyclable polyester elastomer that ensures advanced comfort and is characterized by elasticity, breathability, and water resistance. It is an unprecedented combination in the sector, allowing for the complete elimination of polyurethane—a significant achievement, considering the material’s recycling complexity.
Designed for seamless indoor and outdoor use, the sofa is available in one-, two-, or three-seat versions, with a lightweight design that facilitates movement and reconfiguration.
