Kasian is pleased to announce the addition of architect Judith (Judy) MacDougall, AAA, LEED, BD+C, as Principal in our Calgary office, effective July 18. In this role she will provide valuable insight and leadership in Kasian’s diverse market sectors.

Judy brings over 20 years of experience and a track record of delivering complex buildings on time and on budget while maintaining architectural integrity throughout the design and construction phases. She specializes in community-based, institutional and commercial mixed-use projects. In each of these areas of practice, her approach is to create spaces that lead to quality experiences that facilitate learning, personal development and social engagement. Judy is also passionate about creating an environmentally sound world and has been a leader in the design community in the area of sustainable design for many years.

Aside from Calgary, Judy’s career has taken her to Vancouver and San Francisco. She’s worked on many iconic buildings including the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver (while working in Bing Thom’s office), the Alberta Research Council Building in Calgary and the Poon Residence in Vancouver. When Judy was previously with Kasian from 2003 to 2010, she led the Taylor Family Digital Library and the University of Calgary’s LEED Platinum Child Development Centre projects.

“There are so many aspects that drew me back to the firm: thoughtful inspiring leadership, an amazing team and a commitment to design and innovation,” she says.

Judy serves as co-chair of the Alberta Association of Architects Legislation Committee, is a member of the City of Calgary Urban Design Review Committee and is a sessional instructor with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Environmental Design. She holds Bachelor of Environmental Design and Master of Architecture degrees from Dalhousie University.
