Rottet’s continued commitment to her profession is female-forward
Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, internationally celebrated architect, designer and founding principal/president and owner of Rottet Studio acknowledges Women’s History Month, and her continuing support to women in the design industry who create innovative architectural and interior spaces.
As a WBE-certified business, Rottet Studio is committed to the continued support of and hiring of women who now comprise 58% of the firm’s full-time staff. Rottet is also the first woman in history to be elevated to Fellow status, the highest membership honor, by both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and International Interior Design Association (IIDA). In the past two decades, Rottet has expanded her practice now with the opening of a new showroom, while producing an award-winning furniture collection as well as hospitality, residential and office design with the firm’s output totaling more than 70 million square feet of built design.
“Don’t worry about being a woman,” Rottet insists, sharing her advice for those just beginning their career. “There are a lot of women in this business. Do your job and do your absolute best. Work hard, utilizing your natural skills, and intuition to understand where the opportunities are. Instead of complaining, ‘Women Up’. Do what’s requested of you, but then go the extra mile and do what you know is needed. Lastly, follow your heart. Design is a fun and rewarding profession!”
Lastly, Rottet appreciates her mentor role. “The key is recognizing when you can’t do it all by yourself, and that you need to teach someone else how to do it. The education of our staff, and of our clients is absolutely key to our success. Hire your replacement, because then you can do bigger and better things,” she adds.
