Ankrom Moisan Celebrates 40 Years of Architectural and Interior Design Excellence, Innovation, and Community Impact

Ankrom Moisan, a leading architecture, interior design, brand, and planning firm, proudly announces its 40th year in business, marking a remarkable journey of creativity, dedication, and transformative design. Since its inception in 1983, Ankrom Moisan has been at the forefront of shaping spaces that transcend boundaries, positively impacting people and communities alike.

From its humble beginnings in a small Victorian home in Portland, Ankrom Moisan was founded by two visionary friends, Stewart Ankrom, and Tom Moisan. Over the past four decades, the firm has blossomed into a powerhouse of almost 300 passionate architects and designers, with offices strategically positioned in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. Throughout its journey, Ankrom Moisan has proudly contributed to thousands of projects that have left an indelible mark on the built environment in the western US.

“We are immensely proud to surpass this milestone,” says Dave Heater, President of Ankrom Moisan. “Our journey has been shaped by the solid foundation laid by Stewart and Tom, who focused the company on providing excellent design services to developers. This is still our specialty today, which has expanded to non-profits and institutions that need realistic, innovative solutions for their development needs. As we celebrate this anniversary, we look forward to embracing the future with the same passion, commitment, and entrepreneurial spirit that have been the hallmarks of our firm for the last four decades.”

Over the years, Ankrom Moisan has specialized in a diverse range of projects across eight industry sectors, including housing, office and workplace, senior communities, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, retail, and community. They also built an award-winning Interiors practice, led by recently retired Karen Bowery, and was integral in launching The Society to focus exclusively on interior design for the hospitality industry. The firm’s portfolio speaks volumes about its versatility and ability to create an experience-driven design with purpose while enriching lives and communities.

“We’ve always imagined a better future, and every day, we work to create it,” says Alissa Brandt, VP of Interiors at Ankrom Moisan. “With a team of skilled architects, interior designers, and innovators, we have consistently exceeded client expectations in designing intentional, experiential, and engaging environments that awaken possibilities.”

Ankrom Moisan has consistently stayed ahead of the curve by embracing sustainability, innovation, and cutting-edge technologies. The firm is committed to promoting operations and design practices that minimize environmental impact, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.

Marquee projects like Elleven and Luma, the first LEED Gold apartment complexes constructed in the state of California, Orchards at Orenco, North America’s largest Passive-House certified project, the Daimler corporate headquarters, which received an Energy Star score of 99 out of 100, Mirabella Portland, the first CCRC (continuing care retirement community) in the country to receive Platinum LEED, and most recently, Aegis Living Lake Union, the first senior project to achieve the Living Building Challenge – making it the greenest senior living building in the world – demonstrate Ankrom Moisan’s innovative spirit that places the firm at the cutting edge of industry design.

As they look toward the future, Ankrom Moisan remains committed to working with developers and organizations who are at the forefront of creating places where people and communities thrive. By nurturing a culture of creativity, respect, authenticity, and sustainability, the firm seeks to inspire and empower people to explore beyond the expected, constantly pushing the boundaries of architectural and interior design excellence.
