Allseating’s Engadin Wins 2021 GOOD DESIGN Award

The Chicago Athenaeum Recognizes Allseating’s Textiles as One of the Most Innovative Designs Across the Globe

Emanuela Frattini Magnusson

Allseating is pleased to announce that the Switzerland-inspired textile collection, Engadin, has been selected as a recipient of a 2021 GOOD DESIGN® award. Organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, GOOD DESIGN is a global competition in its 71st year that recognizes the latest, most advanced products for design excellence. GOOD DESIGN annually remains one of the most prestigious programs in the industry.

“Our team is honored to work with Emanuela Frattini Magnusson and to have the Engadin collection recognized by the GOOD DESIGN Awards,” says Cindy Lawton-Moreby, Vice President of Sales at Allseating. “In 2022, we look forward to continuing to develop innovative, proprietary, and distinctive brand products at accessible price points.” Engadin is a proprietary textile collection designed by Milan-born architect and designer, and President of EFM Design, Emanuela Frattini Magnusson. The collection features three patterns, Dots, Grid, and Bauhaus, which are all based on geometric shapes: a loose dot pattern, a linear grid, and rectilinear color fields. Engadin received its namesake from Frattini Magnusson’s explorations through the long high Alpine valley region in the eastern Swiss Alps, as she derives a majority of her design inspiration from her travels.

Each pattern in the collection has different “color balances,” which means that applying the same colorway to the three types of patterns results in three very different outcomes — however, there is a common thread that pulls them all together. The line’s durability (each pattern can be cleaned with bleach), antimicrobial properties (which maintains a soft touch), and competitive price point are standout features for Engadin compared to other proprietary textile collections on the contract market.

Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, GOOD DESIGN remains the world’s oldest and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide.
