Alegre Design designs Micro for Onok, a line of light that is drawn on the three dimensions of space
By means of fixation, suspension or support, the luminaires achieve a 360º movement that provides great decorative and architectural value

Alegre Design studio has designed, together with Onok Lighting, the Micro lighting system, a line of light that is drawn on the three dimensions of the space and can be oriented in any direction, with a flexible 360-degree system. The light passes through a system of jack connections that favors an agile and flexible connection between luminaires. These, available in various sizes, can configure compositions of up to six meters in length with a single power supply.
“Usually luminaires need to be supported by the lines of the space, but Micro can be installed in any point to provide ambient light and to generate spatial distributions whilst providing a decorative value. By means of fixing, suspension or support, Micro lightning system covers any diagonal or any point that a traditional light would not reach”, explains Alegre Design’s founder and CEO, Marcelo Alegre.
The main challenge of the project was the miniaturization of the entire structure, in line with the Onok’s requirements. The Spanish manufacturer was looking for a 3D lighting system based on an extruded aluminum profile with subtle aesthetics.
Thus, a minimum number of components was used for Micro lightning system, tailored to the size of the light source and the installation and packaging requirements. Together with the manufacturer, Alegre Design designed solutions to support the movement of the luminaire in a reliable and durable way.
Each structure has a single light entry point via a driver. Also, the cylindrical design of each luminaire is combined with a quick coupling system that allows the parts to be articulated and fixes them to the ceiling, wall or floor.
“Micro opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It is no longer necessary to dimension the lighting for a specific space. In that sense, this lighting system stimulates the creativity of professionals and individuals when it comes to lighting architectural space. The fact that it is a completely modular approach allows Micro to evolve within the space,” emphasizes the designer.
Each of the luminaires is available in 1 meter, 1.5 meters, 2 meters and 2.5 meters and can be installed on the surface, vertically, on the floor, as a wall pendant and suspended. The color temperature is 3,000 degrees Kelvin (K) and 4,000 K.
