Front design group’s innovative collaborations with Axor have been making a splash in museum exhibitions and tradeshows across the country–and now they have officially hit the US market! The Axor 240 2-Jet Showerhead and Axor 1-Jet Handshower by Front were inspired by the hidden aesthetics of technology, turning the typical hardware, such as pipes, joints, valves and funnels, into charming design objects.

Axor’s designs with Front are currently part of the critically acclaimed Pathmakers: Women in Art, Craft and Design, Midcentury and Today exhibit, which just opened at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, D.C. “Pathmakers,” which explores and celebrates the contributions of women in design and art, comes to D.C. after a successful six-month run at the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC (MAD museum).

AXOR BRAND SET TO MAKE ITS MARK AT MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN IN NYC
Collaboration with Front on View in Special Exhibit April 28-September 27

(Alpharetta, GA – April 2015) The Axor brand is Museum-bound. The brand’s collaborations with the Swedish design group Front will be on display at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), April 28-September 27, as part of “Pathmakers: Women in Modern Craft, Midcentury and Today.” The exhibit, featuring a cadre of international female artists, considers the important contributions of women to modernism in postwar visual culture. The Axor WaterDream with Front collection, as well as the Axor ShowerProducts by Front collection will be on view.

Philippe Grohe, Head of the Axor brand, remarks, “It is no surprise that Front has been selected for this exhibit. The group’s perspective is unique and powerful and has led to exceptional and memorable works that challenge the conventional design dialogue. The masterpieces they have created for the Axor brand are right at home in a prestigious museum like MAD.”

The Axor brand has challenged some of the world’s best designers to think of innovative solutions for bathrooms through its WaterDream projects. These result in whimsical and thought-provoking installations (“WaterDreams”). When Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken and Anna Lindgren of Front reimagined the bath for their WaterDream, they decided to focus on the inner workings and behind-the-wall parts of the shower. They brought these elements to the forefront and turned them into beautiful design objects. Philippe Grohe elaborates, “Front shows how something that is normally hidden from view can become a visually appealing and valued spatial construct.” Adds Sofia Lagerkvist, “It was important for us to foster an awareness of what is the most archetypal aspect of the bathroom – the installation itself. For this reason, we played around with the most elementary components that are used to bring water to us – pipes, valves, couplings, and funnels.” The Axor ShowerProducts by Front, Front’s shower collection with Axor, will be displayed alongside the installation.

Curated by Jennifer Scanlan, the exhibition will feature more than 100 works. Front’s designs will be found in a section that focuses on contemporary female artists and designers that reflect and expand upon the work of the earlier generation. International and United States-based artists and designers featured in this section also include Polly Apfelbaum, Vivian Beer, Christine McHorse, Michelle Grabner, Hella Jongerius, Gabriel A. Maher, Magdalene Odundo, and Anne Wilson. After its run in New York, the exhibit will travel to the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, where it will be until 2016.

Axor LampShower by Nendo

When conceiving the Axor LampShower by Nendo, designer Oki Sato sought to combine what is most archetypal about the living space, the lighting, with water, so as to give the shower an enhanced sensuous dimension in a way not yet seen before. The result is something that is not just a shower, nor just a lamp but a hybrid – a magic trick with light and water. Available in chrome.
